Newcastle vs Chelsea: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 18th January 2020
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

After a long injury list Steve Bruce will be happy that it's being reduced. He welcomed back Matt Ritchie in the clubs FA Cup win over Rochdale and Bruce needs all the players fit he can get as Newcastle’s form has dipped in recent weeks.

The Magpies have not won a game since before the Christmas period in the Premier League and have picked up just one point since then. Their proud home record where they had lost just once at home inflicted on them in the first game of the season against Arsenal now reads 3 defeats.

Newcastle have slipped to 13th place and they will need to put 2-3 wins together not to feel the heat of the bottom three making in roads.

Chelsea have found some form after a few yo yo weeks and are still in 4th and five points clear of 5th placed Manchester United for that final Champions League position. However could Frank Lampard’s team be eyeing 3rd place? After Leicester's loss last weekend Chelsea reduced that gap to just six points and it seems very possible they could get it with a good run of form.

The Blues have lost just 1 game in their last five and their last result was a much needed 3-0 win over Burnley. Away form has been very solid this season with 7 wins from 11 and they come into this game undefeated in their last 3 matches.

Team News:

Newcastle: Paul Dummett looks set to miss this game with a hamstring injury as does Dwight Gayle with the same problem. Allan Saint Maximin should be fit for this game after recovering from his hamstring injury.

Chelsea: Marcos Alonso is being tipped to return after his muscle injury. N’Golo Kante should be fine after missing the last game with muscle tightness. Christian Pulisic is ruled out with a tendon problem.

Newcastle vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Earlier this season Chelsea beat Newcastle 1-0.

Last season this fixture ended 2-1 to Chelsea it was their first victory at St James’ Park since 2011

There is an 80% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Newcastle vs Chelsea Prediction:

At least four players who were injured will be available again for Steve Bruce. There has been extra one on one meetings with players and training sessions as Bruce recognises the need for the team to start winning games again. This is not a great place for Chelsea to visit and if Newcastle can find their form from November and early December they can make this game very difficult for the Blues. One player who has stepped up for Newcastle in recent weeks is Miguel Almiron and we will back the player to get a goal. We are also going to concentrate on goals as our main pick here and there is a high winning percentage to see them. We should be treated to a very entertaining game.

Newcastle vs Chelsea Betting Tips:

Over 2.5 goals at 1.72

Anytime goalscorer: Miguel Almiron at 4.00
