Newcastle vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 29th February 2020
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

Newcastle come into this game with poor form as they have no wins in their last four matches. This includes losing back to back games against Arsenal and Crystal Palace, although they were both away games and the Magpies will be looking to get back on track as they return home to St James' this Saturday.

Recent home form is mixed, with 2 defeats in their last five games and their last home game was seen as disappointing as they could only draw 0-0 with bottom placed club Norwich. Newcastle should be safe this season but they are not out of the woods yet and are starting to slip behind the teams in 11th and 12th place.

Burnley would be in 2nd place on form and they have won 13 of their last 15 points. Sean Dyche’s team are in their best moment of their season and have not lost a game since January 11th when Chelsea beat them.

It has been a rich vein of form which has seen wins against the likes of Manchester United and Leicester, and they drew with Arsenal. Last weekend they beat Bournemouth 3-0. The form has risen the club up into 10th place and with 37 points, the same as Arsenal.

Burnley have lost almost 50% of their games away from home but there are encouraging recent signs and they have won their last two away trips.

Team News:

Newcastle: Christian Atsu is ill and is only 50/50 for this game. Valentino Lazaro is suspended for this game. Andy Carroll is still struggling with a hip injury.

Burnley: Gundmudsson has a knock and looks like he will be a doubt. Matthew Lowton could miss another game through his knee injury.

Newcastle vs Burnley Head to Head:

Last season Newcastle won this fixture 2-0.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

There is a 75% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Newcastle vs Burnley Prediction:

Burnley clearly have the best form of the two teams but just how long can they keep it up? Also Burnley have not travelled well to Newcastle in the past and the Magpies will be happy to return home. We think we may see a very entertaining game that includes goals, because both teams should be safe this season and are quite equal in terms of quality on the pitch. We will back the away team to get something from the game though due to the far superior form, and we'll back at least a couple of goals. Although Newcastle have only scored 12 goals at home this season, so keep that in mind in reference to the stake levels.
