Newcastle vs Brighton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 21st September 2019
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

It’s just 1 win so far this season for Steve Bruce at Newcastle, and that victory was an unlikely one away to Tottenham. But the Magpies come into this game really needing a win and are in 18th place.

Newcastle’s last game was against Liverpool where they lost 3-1 at Anfield although they had taken the lead, they were simply overpowered and outclassed by the end of the game. At home Newcastle have played just two games, a 1-0 loss against Arsenal and a 1-1 draw against Watford. Nobody is expecting many miracles at Newcastle this season and if they don’t go down they could well be fighting a relegation fight for much of the season. But time is on their side and if forward Joelinton can build on his goal v Tottenham then that can give the club much needed hope.

Brighton are in 16th and a point above Newcastle, this will be the clubs longest trip this season and they haven’t won a game since the opening weekend of the season.

Last weekend Graham Potter’s side drew 1-1 with Burnley and away from home they have beaten Watford and lost 4-0 to Manchester City. Like Newcastle, Brighton could really struggle this season and so this game even at this early stage of the season feels like a genuine six pointer.

Team News:

Newcastle: Andy Carroll could make an emotional return to Newcastle but is 50/50 to do so and will be assessed. Sean Longstaff is also 50/50 to make this game after a minor ankle injury scare a few days ago. Fabian Schar has a calf injury but could be assessed and Allan Saint-Maximin is expected to return by the end of the month and isn’t set to be risked in this match

Brighton: Leon Balogun is out with a muscle injury. Bernardo looks likely to miss this game with a knock. Alireza Jahanbakhsh has a muscle injury and is ruled out of this game

Newcastle vs Brighton Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 1-0 to Brighton.

Newcastle have not beaten Brighton in 5 meetings going back to 2017.

The last 4 meetings have all been under 2.5 goals.

Newcastle vs Brighton Prediction:

Newcastle have had tougher fixtures than Brighton to start the season with and yet both teams have in affect had quite a similar beginning to the campaign. The Magpies should be up for the game at home and it will be worth checking the team news. If the prodigal son Andy Carroll has been selected even on the bench, that could fill the dressing room with joy and great atmosphere within the stadium. We are going to back the home side to have the lead at half time and also back under goals as traditionally there are very few in this fixture.

Newcastle vs Brighton Betting Tips:

Half Time Result: Newcastle winning at 3.75

Under 2.5 goals at 1.62

Anytime goalscorer: Joelinton at 3.00
