Man Utd vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 13th April 2019
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

Has the curse of the signed contract came back to haunt Manchester United - because ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer put pen to paper United have looked more like they did in December than in the last 3 months. In all competitions they have lost 4 from their last 5 games and in the league they have slipped to 6th place and out of Champions League contention.

In midweek they lost at home against Barcelona with the match finishing 1-0, so that tie is not dead but it seems a big ask for United to go to Camp Nou and get a result. Before that game they will take on West Ham and will have to be 100% focused, drop points here and they might have to forget about finishing in the top 4.

United’s last game finished in a 2-1 loss against Wolves and their last home game was a 2-1 win over Watford. At Old Trafford recent form has been good where the club are undefeated in 2019 and have won 11 points from their last 15.

West Ham are on a run of poor form and have lost 3 of their last 4 games. What has been worrying for The Hammers is that their displays have looked lacklustre and toothless and they are starting to lose touch with 7th place. They come into this game in 11th position.

The Hammers have lost 9 games away this season and that includes losing their last 3 in a row and they will be clear underdogs to get anything from this game.

Team News:

Manchester United: Eric Bailly is set to be assessed after his head injury from last month. Ander Herrera is due back after his knock ruled him out of the game v Wolves. Luke Shaw is suspended after picking up his 10th yellow card of the season. Ashley Young is suspended after his red card v Wolves. Valencia is still out with a knock and there has been no updates on the players availability

West Ham: Samir Nasri looks set to miss the game with his on going calf injury. Winston Reid has finally returned to training but is lacking match fitness

Man Utd vs West Ham Head to Head:

Earlier in the season West Ham beat Manchester United 3-1.

Last season Manchester United won this fixture 4-0.

West Ham have not beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford since 2007.

Man Utd vs West Ham Prediction:

The only sticking point in not thinking Manchester United will get an easy victory is the Barcelona game due to take place just 3 days after this match. At the same time Solskjaer will be forced into pickng a strong team in order to try and get a 4th place. One wonders if United have really found their identity yet - under Sir Alex Ferguson for example the team would be going out to win both matches coming up, but this United side seem a little unsure of themselves and the 1.44 odds doesn’t seem that justified for a United win.

We should look out for Romelu Lukaku to score. He had a poor game v Barcelona, and it is questionable if he will start in that game so Solskjaer may start him instead in this league game. While we think United should win the game we don’t think they will be 100% focused and West Ham may just get on the score sheet too.

Man Utd vs West Ham Betting Tips:

Both teams to score at 1.72

Anytime goalscorer: Romelu Lukaku at 1.91

Over 2.5 goals at 1.50
