Man Utd vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 4th October 2020
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

This is a fixture that has always felt big and of course there is the added spice of Jose Mourinho returning to Old Trafford, although of course he will be spared the wrath of any fans.

Manchester United have somehow looked uneasy in the league; an opening game defeat against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford was followed up by a last ditch effort at Brighton, which the club won 3-2. They then beat Graham Potter’s side again in the Carabao Cup to advance to the quarter finals in mid week.

United come into this game in 13th place with 3 points just one behind their opponents.

Tottenham have progressed well in the cup competitions but have been lacking slightly in the league. The club have had quite a few fixtures and a lot of travelling too lately so one can feel for them. Any football fan (apart from Newcastle and Arsenal maybe) could have felt for the club after last weekend’s ‘three stooges’ moment when a controversial penalty was awarded to their opponents Newcastle deep into injury time. Of course rules are rules, and it was a penalty when the ball hit an unknowing Eric Dier on the arm, but still. What rubbed the salt into wounds was that Tottenham had completely dominated the game and Newcastle had just 1 shot on target, which was converting the penalty.

Other than that Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane have shown their qualities in the cup games and against Southampton in a 5-2 victory, and the club come here with a boost after destroying Maccabi Haifa 7-2 to qualify for the Europa League group stages.

Team News:

Manchester United: Harry Maguire should return from a knock after missing the clubs Carabao Cup match. Sergio Romero is unavailable due to personal reasons.

Tottenham: An update on Gareth Bale is that the player will not be ready to play until after the International break due to his knee injury picked up at Real Madrid. Heung-Min Son is a doubt for this game with his hamstring, some reports suggest he is out for two weeks, others say he could face a late assessment.

Man Utd vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Last season Manchester United won this fixture 2-1.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Tottenham has just 1 win at Old Trafford from the last six league meetings.

Man Utd vs Tottenham Prediction:

There is no love lost between some of United’s players and Jose Mourinho, and there might be an extra level that players such as Paul Pogba will bring to this game. Going away to United will be very tough on Tottenham who have had a hectic schedule even if Mourinho has tried to chop and change his team. Getting anything here will feel like a small mircale because of this and then there is the Son worry if he will be fine to play, it looks like he could miss out.

With all this stacked against Tottenham and Manchester United having a full squad we think the home side will have enough to get the win.
