Man Utd vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 8th March 2020
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

The Manchester derby needs no introduction and this should be a very high tempo game full of incident, hopefully for neutrals it will also be free flowing and have plenty of goals.

Manchester United are chasing down Chelsea in 4th place and are just 3 points behind them in the quest to qualify for next seasons Champions League. Form has been better for the Red Devils who have gone their last 4 games unbeaten with 2 wins and two draws. Their last game ended 1-1 against Everton.

At Old Trafford they have only won 50% of their games, which isn’t the best for a club like United, but they have only lost 2 home games. They have collected 10 points at Old Trafford from their last 15 on offer.

Manchester City remain 2nd and look like they will have no problems finishing as runners up this season. They have 57 points and are seven points clear of 3rd placed Leicester, with a game in hand over them. They are 22 points behind Liverpool, but would love, by the end of the season to have reduced that gap greatly, and they could.

City have beaten West Ham and Leicester in their last two games and in midweek they knocked out Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup to move into the quarter finals.

Whilst Pep Guardiola’s side has the 2nd best away record in the league they have still lost 4 times this season but have won 3 of their last four games on the road.

Team News:

Manchester United: Daniel James has a knock but looks likely to recover for this game. Harry Maguire should be fine with a minor ankle injury and will be assessed.

Manchester City: Kevin De Bruyne has a shoulder injury though it is thought not to be serious, he will be assessed before the game.

Man Utd vs Man City Head to Head:

Last season Manchester City won this game 2-0.

It has been 5 games and 5 years since Manchester United beat Manchester City at home in the league.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Man Utd vs Man City Prediction:

Man United fight for 4th but City are simply fighting for end of season pride and have bigger fish to fry in the cup competitions this season. That doesn’t mean we will see a poor derby, far from it, and it should be end to end stuff, that opens up more in the 2nd half. We expect to see goals in some form as the match progresses. We also think Man Utd look good value with their counter attacking style of play possibly suited to playing Man City's high back line, so will back them on the handicap.
