Man Utd vs Crystal Palace: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 19th September 2020
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

Manchester United will kick off their season at home to Crystal Palace and will be the favourites to win this game.

After finishing magnificently last season with a hot run of form that saw United end up dislodging Chelsea and finishing 3rd there is excitement around the team that they can challenge for the league or at least give Liverpool and Manchester City a run for their money.

United have bought just one player so far in the form of Donny van de Beek from Ajax but are also after Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and are the favourites at this present time to land the player. It’s been reported that he could cost the club upwards of £90m but would be a welcome addition to the squad.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side played just one friendly which was against Aston Villa in which they won 1-0.

Crystal Palace will feel less rusty than United having played in the league already. They surprised a few onlookers as they beat Southampton 1-0 to get three valueable points. Surprised because they came into that game with quite a long list of injuries. Indeed Southampton had better possession in that game and more goal attempts but when you have the talent of Wilfried Zaha in your side you always have a chance and it was his goal that ended up deciding the game.

There was bad news though in midweek as Palace exited the Carabao Cup losing on a penalty shoot out against Bournemouth after the game had ended 0-0.

Team News:

Manchester United: Axel Tuanzebe is the Red Devils only concern, he has been missing since the end of last season and isn’t expected back until October

Crystal Palace: Christian Benteke has returned to training, but may miss this game, he will be assessed. Connor Wickham is out with an unspecified injury. Sam Woods picked up a knock but should be fine.

Man Utd vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

Last season Crystal Palace won this fixture 2-1.

Manchester United have not beaten Crystal Palace when at home since 2017.

When the clubs last played in July at Palace, Manchester United won 2-0.

3 of the last 5 league games has seen both teams to score.

Man Utd vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

This game is all about Manchester United keeping up the momentum from last season. Their squad is looking very strong once again and headed by the excellent Bruno Fernandes in midfield, and their striking options are up there with the best in the league in the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

The one worry with United under Solskajer is that they have tended to either be utterly brilliant or underwhelming and they have gone through three month blocks like this since his arrival. Which version will we get on Saturday?

We will take no risks and back them for the home win however United are around 1.30 to win so we will look into different markets.

Man Utd vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips:

Manchester United to be winning at half time at 1.80

Anytime goalscorer: Marcus Rashford at 2.10
