Man Utd vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 25th September 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

Manchester United are in a good place, at least if we are talking about the Premier League. Despite signing Ronaldo and the usual fan fare that has come from that and his goals of course, there has been a hint of disappointment in recent weeks.

The defeat against Young Boys in the Champions League has left a bad taste in the mouth and United were knocked out of the EFL Cup in midweek at home against West Ham. So even though the Red Devils are only being kept from being top of the league on goal difference from Chelsea and are unbeaten, so far there is much to ponder.

Still they will be favourites to win this game and score a few goals also, and if they win well and Ronaldo keeps up his startling rate for scoring goals all will be well again. Of course Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team beat West Ham in the league last weekend before losing in the cup match and you get the sense that United with the attacking players they now have at their disposal are eyeing a league run.

Aston Villa are in 10th place and a surprise win would see them close the gap on United to just 3 points. They have won 2 games so far and that includes their very good 3-0 victory over Everton last weekend which would have given the club plenty of confidence.

However Villa will know the task at hand here. Away from home form does not bode well either as they have lost both of their games against Watford and Chelsea respectively and conceded 6 goals in those fixtures. To compound matters the club were involved in quite a battle against Chelsea again in midweek in the EFL Cup, that game finished 1-1 but they lost on penalties.

Team News:

Manchester United: Marcus Rashford is expected back in 10 days from a shoulder injury. Edinson Cavani could be included in the squad after recovering from a knock.

Aston Villa: Leon Bailey has a thigh injury and has been ruled out for at least 3 weeks. Morgan Sanson has a hamstring injury from midweek and could miss the next month.  Alex Tuanzebe is ineligible to face his parent club.

Man Utd vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 2-1 to Manchester United and in the last two league games they played against Aston Villa they scored 5 goals.

It’s been 18 games since Aston Villa last beat Manchester United going back to 2009.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

We haven’t seen a 0-0 between the teams in 13 years.

Man Utd vs Aston Villa Prediction

Manchester United will be angry about midweek, even if the EFL Cup is not high on the clubs priorities, a cup is a cup and the further they had gone in it the more Solskjaer would have played his stronger side and taken it seriously. The fans will be expecting a good reaction for this game.

United are far better than Villa and we should expect to see Dean Smith’s side defend for long periods and try to counter attack. They have been dealt a blow with the injury to Leon Bailey who has looked very good lately.

As for United, it is their show at home again complete with Ronaldo and all eyes will be on the player who has scored 4 goals already in all competitions, and against Villa he might be hoping for more. Cavani could also come back, and the attack looks wonderful, complete with the home fans cheering on, we do not see many problems for Solskjaer’s side. They are being quoted at almost 1.33 to win so for value it might be worth taking the handicap because surely there are a few goals in this team at the weekend.

Ronaldo is just one piece in the Portguese jigsaw and let’s not forget about Bruno Fernandes. Fernandes has scored against Aston Villa in the last 3 meetings between the sides and will be a danger for sure again at the weekend.
