Man Utd vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 1st December 2019
Kick off at 4.30pm GMT
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

Manchester United come into this game needing what they have needed for several months now, a win and a good run in the league. In midweek they were beaten by Astana in the Europa League but they should have enough in the tank to qualify from that group.

Domestically the club have been average of late, although have only lost 1 game in their last five but their results are also riddled with draws. The club fought back well against Sheffield United last weekend in a game that finished 3-3 but they would have to question why they were 2-0 down and in most cases heading for defeat.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been under considerable pressure but it is worth remembering that they have lost just once at home this season. Their last home match in the league ended in a 3-1 win over Brighton.

Aston Villa are in 15th place and got a vital 2-0 win over Newcastle last Monday. It was a victory that stopped a 3 game losing run and propelled the club up a few places. A win here could take the club near the top 10, which would be a remarkable improvement over a few weeks ago when the club were rubbing shoulders with the bottom three.

Villa have the worst away record in the league where from 18 points they have won just 3. Their only away win came against Norwich when they overcame them 5-1.

Team News:

Manchester United: Scott McTominay has recovered from an ankle injury but his return is only 50/50. Nemanja Matic could be back after a lack of match fitness and will have a late test

Aston Villa: Bjorn Engles should be back for the club after his hip injury. Jota should also be back after a lack of match fitness. Jed Steer will miss the next 3-4 months with an achilles injury

Man Utd vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

Last season Manchester United won a close game which finished 1-0.

Aston Villa have not won at Old Trafford since 2009.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

The last 0-0 between the clubs happened in 2008.

Man Utd vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Manchester United have obviously had their problems this season but they proved against Brighton when they are at home against bottom half league clubs they have a good chance of imposing themselves on a game and getting a win. We really have no issues to back the club when playing at home and the biggest problems seem to lie away from Old Trafford. This could be a good solid and traditional win for the club and Villa shouldn’t possess too much of a threat. A win for United could propel them into the top 6, which would be the first feeling that Ole is starting to turn things around for the club.
