Man City vs Wolves: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 14th January 2019
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

Manchester City have fallen 7 points behind Liverpool after The Reds beat Brighton on Saturday so Pep Guardiola’s team will know what they have to do on Monday night and nothing less than a win against Wolves will do.

City had a nightmare December which has put them in this situation but have bounced back with two wins in a row in the league, including beating Liverpool. They also put 9 goals past Burton in the Carabao Cup semi finals and are sure to be in the final even though there is another leg to play, and beat Rotherham 7-0 in the FA Cup.

City do have an incredible record at The Etihad where they have won 10 games from 11, with their only loss of points coming against Crystal Palace in a surprise 3-2 defeat.

Last weekend the Premier League took a break for the 3rd round of the FA Cup and Wolves took that opportunity to stun Liverpool and knock them out of the competition when they won 2-1. In the league it has been more of a struggle where they have won just 1 game from their past four.

Their last league game ended in a 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace. Although their recent home form has been excellent with just 1 defeat in their past five trips and they are currently on a 3 game unbeaten streak which includes beating Tottenham 3-1 at Wembley.

Wolves have fallen to 10th place but if they were to win this game they could go as high as 8th with all of the other teams around them playing at the weekend.

Team News:

Manchester City: Sergio Aguero should be back after illness prevented him playing against Burton in the Carabao Cup. Brahim Diaz has joined Real Madrid. Vincent Kompany has a minor knock but is back in training and will be assessed.

Wolves: The club have no new injuries coming into this game and have a full squad available

Man City vs Wolves Head to Head:

Earlier this season at Wolves the teams drew 1-1.

Wolves have not beaten Manchester City home or away in the league since 2010.

3 of the last 4 league games have seen both teams to score.

Man City vs Wolves Prediction:

Manchester City are the massive odds on favourites to win the game and they really should have few problems in doing so. Wolves would have been more of a danger at home as witnessed in the teams earlier game this season. Though it should be noted that Wolves away form has been good recently, this match is a do or die for City, the difference between regaining hopes to be champions again or failures. A huge match for City but we will have to look into different markets for better value.
