Man City vs Wolves: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 2nd March 2021
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

This week we are back to the midweek games in the Premier League and we kick off on Tuesday night when Manchester City will take on Wolves.

It feels like only a matter of time now until Manchester City win the league and they come into this game 12 points clear of Manchester United. City received good news at the weekend as Leicester who are in 3rd lost to Arsenal and a 13 point gap has now developed between the two sides.

In beating West Ham at the weekend Manchester City recorded their 20th consecutive win in all competitions, which is simply phenomenal. Pep Guardiola’s team had a scare given that the Hammers fought back from 1-0 down but in truth they dominated possession and chances in the 2nd half, and it was two defenders in Ruben Dias and John Stones who got the goals as City won the game 2-1.

Wolves drew 1-1 at Newcastle at the weekend but they will take that point given that at one point they were losing. It was a tough fixture against a side who could drop into the bottom three and it showed good character from Wolves to remain tight at the back and believe in themselves after trailing early on away from home. The club continue to stay undefeated for their last six games after recovering from a mid-season slump.

For now Wolves would go above Leeds with victory in midweek though that is easier said than done, however over the recent seasons the club have had some positive results over their opponents. Away from home it is just one defeat in their last five which includes 3 draws. Wolves did earn a draw against Chelsea in what was Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge of the Blues.

Team News:

Manchester City: No new injuries for City but Nathan Ake is still out although he is back in training, there has been no update on a possible return for the player as of yet.

Wolves: Willy Boly could be assessed after his hamstring injury but remains a doubt. Marcal won’t be back for 2 weeks after surgery on his thigh. Raul Jimenez is a long term head injury.

Man City vs Wolves Head to Head:

Last season Wolves won this fixture 2-0.

Wolves have won 2 of the last three meetings between the sides.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Manchester City won 3-1.

4 of the last 8 league games has seen over 3.5 goals.

Man City vs Wolves Prediction:

Manchester City have struggled for some results against Wolves although earlier this season City were able to show their qualities against Nuno Espirito Santo’s team plus the form of City is simply out of this world and we do not expect to see a shock result here. City look like marching on. The problem as ever is the clubs odds at home represent no value and are around 1.10.

This is a game where it would be better served to concentrate on the goals market. A whole host of different players for City have scored against Wolves even when they have lost to them. Gabriel Jesus scored a brace a few seasons ago as did Raheem Sterling and with Sergio Aguero looking slightly rusty after his month lay off with illness we think investing in others to get the goals could be the better option. Wolves are in a good position in the league where they will survive and they may just try and take some risks in this game. History says that there are a lot of goals normally and we think this should be the case come Tuesday evening.

Man City vs Wolves Betting Tips:

Over 2.5 goals at 1.72

Anytime goalscorer: Raheem Sterling at 2.25
