Man City vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 20th April 2019
Kick off at 12.30pm BST
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

Manchester City and Tottenham will do battle once again at The Etihad after the teams played out an enthralling classic Champions League encounter, which at one point was throwing out a goal every 4 minutes and 20 seconds. It was a game that had so much drama, one was expecting an Oscar to be hand delivered from Hollywood, because it seemed only in film could that match be made up.

The match ended 4-3 to City on the night but Pep Guardiola’s team were knocked out of the Champions League on the away goal rule with the game ending 4-4 on aggregate over the two games. This despite City looking to have snatched the win and go 5-3 up in the final minutes only for VAR to discover an offside. Tottenham will play Ajax in the Champions League semi-final.

While nobody will be forgetting that game in a hurry it is back to Premier League action, and this match remains a must win for City. It seems logical that a wounded City side will go out for revenge after being knocked out of a competition they dearly wanted to win. Lose or draw here and that could well end up being a massive blow for Guardiola’s team who are in danger of seeing their season implode.

For all of the disappointments in midweek it must be rememebred of course that City did actually win in 90 minutes in midweek and City can repeat that trick, ableit with less tense drama (for the fans sake). They will be more than happy to get the 3 points, and of course City have a superb record at home with 16 wins from 17 games. They are just 2 points behind Liverpool but have a game in hand coming into this match.

Tottenham have been understandibly jubilant, but football can be cruel and they can still end up with nothing, not even Champions League qualification for next season. However, this will be another hard game for the club. Although they are in 3rd place with 67 points, just 3 points seperates them from 6th place, so there really is all to play for.

On the road Tottenham’s form has been very poor, losing 4 games in a row, although these have been very close games, with 3 of those encounters ending in 2-1 defeats. Overall the club have still won 65% of their away games which is the 3rd best record in the league.

Team News:

Manchester City: The club come into this game with no new injuries with the bulk of the team that started in midweek against Tottenham expected to play again

Tottenham: Erik Lamela suffered a reaccureance of his hamstring injury and was set to be back for this match, he will instead be assessed before the game. Moussa Sissoko is set to miss this game after suffering a groin injury in the Champions League match v City. Serge Aurier is still out with his hamstring and Harry Kane isn’t expected back until the end of May

Man City vs Tottenham Head to Head:

In the league earlier in the season Manchester City beat Tottenham 1-0.

Manchester City have won the last 3 league meetings over Tottenham.

The last time the teams met at The Ethiad in the league, Manchester City won 4-1.

Man City vs Tottenham Prediction:

This is a huge game for Manchester City and it also remains a big one for Tottenham, though with a league title on the line City will be under more pressure. Both teams will have some fatigue from midweek. What has been noticeable about City in their games from the past month is how capable they have been at scoring early on. It is important that the club show no mercy and attack for goal from the first whistle and that is why our main choice here will be to see City in the lead at half time. As the game goes on it will be more taxing for the players.

Tottenham will not come here and play through the motions and will try to upset City once more, but we have to remember that City have bested Tottenham in recent fixtures with Tottenham winning just 1 game from the previous 7 matches.

Man City vs Tottenham Betting Tips:

Half Time: Manchester City to be winning at 1.72

Anytime goalscorer: Raheem Sterling at 1.91
