Man City vs Leicester: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 6th May 2019
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

Manchester City will have the chance to go back to the top of the Premier League if they can beat Leicester at home on Monday night. Liverpool are currently in 1st place after beating Newcastle 3-2 on Saturday.

This is like a final for City given that if they were to lose or even draw, the league title would almost certainly be going to Liverpool for the first time in 29 years. As it stands Pep Guardiola’s side have been in amazing form winning 12 games in a row trying to fend off a determined Liverpool side.

City have lost just 1 game at home and have the best home record in the league having amassed 51 points from a possible 54. The only nit pick about City’s overall form is that they are not scoring enough goals - three of their last four home games have seen the club score 1 or 2 goals. The club also have this tendency to score early and dominate games but with the score at 1-0, they are treading a fine line. By far the best equipped side in the Premier League that there can be no doubts, but this side have also shown a nervousness about them, despite having fantastic mental strength which has been proven in the last couple of months.

Leicester are aiming for the double over City after beating them earlier this season 2-1 at King Power Stadium, in what was seen as a shock. Brendan Rodgers who wasn’t the manager then but is now has bigged up his current team, declaring that their attackng tactics alongside closing down players can outdo City.

It is interesting that two ex Liverpool managers could end up giving The Reds the lift they need. Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle side put in a good shift at the weekend but still lost 3-2. And now Brendan Rodgers could greatly help his former team by getting something here or at least frustrating City.

The Foxes current form is very good with just one loss in their last five games and from the last 10 games the club would be 4th in the league. Away from home Leicester have lost 7 games but also won 7 and what has been interesting is that they have gone their last 3 games undefeated. Still and with all due respect to the following teams - West Ham, Burnley and Huddersfield is not a big test.

Team News:

Manchester City: Claudio Bravo is back in training but will not be ready for this game. Neither will Kevin De Bruyne who is aiming to be back for the last game of the season, but set to miss this match. Fernandinho could be included in the squad but if so is likely to start from the bench

Leicester: The Foxes come into this game with no new injuries

Man City vs Leicester Head to Head:

Leicester beat Manchester City 2-1 back in December.

Last season Manchester City beat Leicester 5-1 at home.

Manchester City have won 3 of the last 4 league meetings against Leicester.

Man City vs Leicester Prediction:

On paper Manchester City should be able to ease to a win but there are some factors to be thrown in here. This is the real business end now and no mistakes can be made. We know City will come out, and come out dangerous. Leicester manager Rodgers is claiming that his team will be able to deal with that, and City can be exposed at the back. The team do take risks in trying to score and Jamie Vardy has been on form and dangerous of late.

And yet going against City seems daft. The problem is that they are being quoted at odds on of around 1.15. Because there is no value in that we will look into different markets. One will be to back Sergio Aguero to score. The Argentinian always seems to come good on the very big occasions and let’s not forget the last time City played Leicester at The Ethiad he scored 4 goals.

Man City vs Leicester Betting Tips:

Anytime goalscorer: Sergio Aguero at 1.62

Both teams to score at 1.72

Correct Score: Manchester City to win 2-1 or 3-1 at 10.00 and 10.00
