Man City vs Arsenal: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 3rd February 2019
Kick off at 4.30pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

After Manchester City's 2-1 loss at Newcastle despite taking the lead we have a question, do Pep Guardiola’s side even deserve to win the league ths season?

The worrying trend for City this season is how they are losing games against mid table and below teams. If they can’t get a quick 2nd goal they are struggling to put teams to bed who have obviously been doing their homework on them.

In some ways Manchester City were let off a little when they lost to The Magpies given that Liverpool could only draw against Leicester a day later. When everybody thought that The Reds would go 7 points clear, they are only 5 clear. Still, that’s another point advantage and another game gone.

Guardiola talked about going on a big winning run and that is what City need, but they have a tough test here against Arsenal who are looking for a top 4 finish.

City have won 11 of their 12 games at home and have the best home record in the league where they have also scored 40 goals from 12 games played. City might be wounded but Arsenal cannot underestimate them one bit.

As for Arsenal they have put some results together now and have won 3 of their last 4 games. In midweek they beat Cardiff 2-1 to go into 4th place on goal difference to Chelsea.

However The Gunners are struggling away from home. From their total of 47 points, only 15 have come on the road. Recent away form is very poor where they have lost 3 of their 4 games conceding 10 goals in those last four matches.

Team News:

Manchester City: Vincent Kompany was due back for this game but he seems to have fallen behind with his knock and at this time it looks likely he will miss out. Benjamin Mendy looks set to return from his knee injury and has been training ahead of this game

Arsenal: Laurent Koscielny is expected to be back after suffering a jaw injury and has been training in the week. Henrikh Mkhitaryan did have fitness issues but seems to be responding well and be assessed ahead of the game

Man City vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Earlier this season Manchester City beat Arsenal at The Emirates 2-0. This is the only loss at home for The Gunners so far this season in the league.

Last season Manchester City beat Arsenal here 3-1.

Arsenal have not beaten Manchester City in 7 games.

5 from the last 7 games have seen both teams to score.

Man City vs Arsenal Prediction:

A massive game for Manchester City who need to catch Liverpool after going five points behind, but the way Arsenal play has played into City’s hands recently and that should continue on Sunday. The key here is for City to get an early lead and it could be really difficult for Arsenal to get back into this.

Make no mistake, this is the game of the weekend in the Premier League, given that Arsenal need the win too, but we think City will just be too strong at home for them.
