Liverpool vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 24th February 2020
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

Let’s not kid around, the gulf between these two clubs is enormous and West Ham will be under intense pressure from the first whistle at Anfield on Monday evening.

Liverpool are 19 points ahead of Manchester City but have this game to play and mostly everyone will be expecting that lead to be restored to 22 points come Monday night.

The Reds are setting records and have won 25 of their 26 games played so far, drawing just one match, which was away to Manchester United earlier in the season. They have won 39 points from 39 at home which is simply stunning and they will be huge odds on favourites to beat 18th placed West Ham.

Domestically Liverpool’s season really couldn’t have been any better although they did lose in the Champions League, 1-0 away to Atletico Madrid in the 1st leg, one has to wonder if that game will have any affect on the side who are not used to losing games?

The Hammers have not improved under new manager David Moyes and have in fact taken backwards steps. They have not won a game since New Years Day and their last win away from home was against Southampton over two months ago, and that was under Manuel Pellegrini.

West Ham’s last game was in midweek in their rescheduled fixture against Manchester City, which they lost 2-0. In some ways it was an improvement on their 5-0 battering that they took at home at the beginning of the season.

Team News:

Liverpool: The big blow for Liverpool is Jordan Henderson who is expected to miss the next 3 weeks with a hamstring injury. Other than the midfielder being ruled out there are no new injury concerns for the club

West Ham: Ryan Fredericks has a shoulder injury and is ruled out of this game. Xande Silva could make his long awaited comeback to football but will be assessed ahead of the game.

Liverpool vs West Ham Head to Head:

West Ham have won just once in the last 12 games played at Anfield.

Last season this fixture ended 4-0 to Liverpool.

Liverpool have scored 4 goals against West Ham in 4 of the last six meetings.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Liverpool vs West Ham Prediction:

With all due respect to West Ham if they were to win here it would be seen as the shock of the season, and that’s more to the fact that Jurgen Klopp’s side have not lost a league game in 13 months. We expect Moyes will set up his team with 5 at the back and the midfielder’s holding back too. They will try and shut up shop because the fact is Moyes will be writing this game off but will understand losing 1-0 or 2-0 is better than 4 or 5-0 if relegation comes down to goal difference, which it likely could do. If Liverpool score early that will be the key to victory and they should be able to ease to a victory. We don’t see any other result than a home win but Liverpool’s short price pretty much excludes many punters from backing them. Still on the handicap their odds become more attractive and that could be the way to go here. Also, with Moyes' negativity away from home, we don't see West Ham getting on the scoresheet. The good news for West Ham is that very little would change for them if they did lose this game since the four teams above them all failed to win.
