Liverpool vs Huddersfield: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Friday 26th April 2019
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

And so it’s back over to you Liverpool in a quite intriguing Premier League title showdown that seems to add more drama by every passing week. Manchester City claimed a massive win in midweek in the Manchester derby where away from home they beat Manchester United 2-0 to surge a point clear of Liverpool and take first position again.

The last couple of Manchester City wins have been a blow in some respects to Liverpool given the quality of teams that City have beat, Tottenham and Man United. Those were supposed to be the games where City would slip up and drop some points letting Liverpool in, but it hasn’t happened. As things stand Liverpool may well go back to the top of the league in this Friday night game, but as long as City win their last 3 matches then they will win the league. The ball is firmly in their court.

Liverpool have been exceptional in keeping with City and trading wins week in and week out and it seems bizarre that the club could well finish with 97 points losing just 1 game all season and still not win the league. That is how high the bar has been raised by this City side.

As for this game, Liverpool will be the massive odds on favourites to not only win but also score quite a few goals. If Huddersfield who are in bottom place and already relegated were to get anything from this game it would rightly be seen as one of the biggest shocks of the season.

At Anfield Liverpool remain undefeated with 15 wins and 2 draws. They are scoring on average 2.5 goals a game and their last home match ended in a 2-0 win over Chelsea. The Reds have gained 26 points in their last 10 Premier League games.

In contrast to Liverpool’s form, in Huddersfield’s last 10 games they have gained 3 points, conceding 23 goals. The club are 9 points behind 19th placed Fulham and have nothing to play for, perhaps just setting themselves up not to get slaughtered.

They have won just 1 game all season away from home and are conceding on the road at least 2 goals a game. Their last away fixture was against Tottenham in which they lost 4-0.

Team News:

Liverpool: Fabinho could be assessed as he suffered what appears to have been a minor head injury in the clubs last game against Cardiff. Dejan Lovren should be back in the squad after illness ruled him out of the last two games

Huddersfield: Adama Diakhaby was pencilled in to return by the end of April after his hamstring injury, but no updates have been given on the player. Laurent Depoitre’s return from injury continues to be delayed after his foot injury, he might be assessed before this game but for now it looks likely he will miss this game

Liverpool vs Huddersfield Head to Head:

The teams have only played each other 3 times in recent history with Liverpool winning all 3 games.

Last season at Anfield Liverpool beat Huddersfield 3-0.

Mohamed Salah has scored in the last two meetings v Huddersfield.

Liverpool vs Huddersfield Prediction:

As you would expect Liverpool are massive odds on and just can’t be backed to win this game. Even if we take them to be leading at half time they are around 1.25 and a note of caution- the last time they played Huddersfield at Anfield the result was a draw at half time. Instead it might be better for value sakes to concentrate who might get on the score sheet and also predicting the correct score. As mentioned in the head to head Salah has a good record against Huddersfield, he is odds on to score but it almost seems inevitable he can do so.

Shocks happen in football but it looks almost impossible here given this is at Anfield, we just can’t fathom what Huddersfield can do here but to try and defend and keep the score low. A cheeky bet on Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk should be taken on. He has 3 goals this season and on Friday it is expected that he will be named as PFA Player of the Year. His confidence and determination will be high for this game.

Liverpool vs Huddersfield Betting Tips:

Anytime goalscorer: Mohamed Salah at 1.50

Anytime goalscorer: Virgil van Dijk at 5.00

Correct Score: Liverpool to win 3-0 or 4-0 at 6.00 and 7.00
