Leicester vs Nottm Forest: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 3rd October 2022
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

It’s 20th v 19th and there’s a whole lot of pressure on Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers coming into this match. Many thought that he would have been sacked just before the international break after losing 6 of the first seven games and drawing the other. So it’s just 1 point and 22 goals conceded-the most in the Premier League. And yet if the Foxes can pull out a win here they would climb off bottom place.

Leicester’s last game finished in a 6-2 defeat at Tottenham and although you wouldn’t think it they played some good football and almost had a hold of the game at one point. But that followed a 5-2 loss at Brighton and conceding 11 goals in just two games on the back of other poor results isn’t going to do much for the confidence stakes. Perhaps the good news is that the international break came, and now this can be seen as a time to go back to the drawing board and wipe the slate clean.

Nottingham Forest have ambitious plans and have spent heavy in the summer bringing in almost 20 new players, but evidently it isn’t working. The club have lost their last 4 games and just being in the bottom three the omens do not look good. It’s early days of course but we have seen time and again once you get stuck in those places it can be a struggle. However if they win here they would move out of the bottom three for now but they have only one win so far. It’s no wins away from home yet for the newly promoted side and their last game finished in a 6-0 loss to the champions Manchester City, so it’s scored 1 and conceded 9 on the road so far, not easy reading.

Team News:

Leicester: Patson Daka will be assessed as he fell ill but early indictions suggest he will be ready for this game. Ndidi should return from his hamstring injury. Ricardo Pereira and Ryan Bertrand are out long term.

Nottingham Forest: Morgan Gibbs-White will be assessed after receiving a knock but has a chance to be included in the match day squad. Scott McKenna is a doubt to be ready after picking up a knock but will be assessed. Orel Mangala was pencilled in to return for this game with his hamstring injury but remains a major doubt. Omar Richards is out with his on going leg injury and isn’t expected back for another three weeks. Moussa Niahate has a muscle injury and will be assessed but this game may have come too early for him.

Leicester vs Nottm Forest Head to Head:

The teams have not played with Leicester being the home side since 2013, and in that game Nottingham Forest won 2-0.

The last game played between the two sides was earlier this year in the FA Cup where Nottingham Forest won 4-1 knocking out the then holders of the cup. Forest were at home.

Leicester have won just once from the last six meetings.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Leicester vs Nottm Forest Prediction:

This has to be seen as a new chapter for Leicester, and Brendan Rodgers has been given some breathing space. He will realise that many other clubs in the Premier League would have sacked him a few weeks ago. If the Foxes were to lose here and lose heavy that really could spell the end for him. However with some time to think (Leicester haven’t played for over two weeks and only played two games in September) this could well be the perfect tonic to get his team back into gear.

At home, bottom of the league and needing a win you could do worse than having Jamie Vardy up front. The prolific striker and a legend at the club has had a terrible start to the season but Rodgers surely would have installed into the team that their season begins now and we will be watching Vardy closely. As for Forest they are seeing how hard it is to compete in the Premier League and one has to feel for manager Steve Cooper. He is a good manager but he could fall victim here to a sacking, and you sense he will soon enough if he isn’t able to get more points on the board. We will back the home team to get their first win of the season, but they will need the support of the fans.
