Leicester vs Newcastle: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 29th September 2019
Kick off at 4.30pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

Would it be fair to say that Leicester have been the best pound for pound team in the Premier League so far? Brendan Rodgers has done an impressive job since taking over the Foxes in the second half of last season and the former Liverpool and Celtic manager has a 50% win rate with the club, and from 18 games managed his team have only lost four times.

The Foxes come into this game in 5th place with 11 points and a win would take them to 3rd in the standings. They have won 3 of their last four games with their last match ending in a 2-1 victory over Tottenham which was obviously a massive result for the club.

Though they have played a game less, Leicester also have the joint best defence in the league having conceded just 5 goals, the same as league leaders Liverpool, it’s fair to say that the Leicester camp are in a very good place.

As for Steve Bruce’s Newcastle the same can’t be said and the Magpies are in 19th position. They have gone their last 3 games without a win with their last match ending in a 0-0 draw against Brighton. They have won just one game this season and conceded 6 goals from three away games. The feeling is that there is quality in this side but where is the direction of the club? This could be a long season for the fans.

Team News:

Leicester: James Maddison is the only doubt for the club with an ankle injury

Newcastle: The Magpies have had an ongoing long term injury list, but as far as new injuries are concerned there is only one in Jonjo Shelvey who has picked up a hamstring injury and won’t be due back until mid October at the earliest

Leicester vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Newcastle have won the last 2 meetings at Leicester.

The teams have already played this season in the Carabao Cup where the match finished 1-1 but Leicester advanced on penalties.

There is an alternating goals pattern when Leicester are at home to Newcastle, if it continues then this game would be over 2.5 goals.

Leicester vs Newcastle Prediction:

Newcastle like coming here and have got some decent results but we are going to back Leicester to get the win. It’s difficult to go against them at home, but we do expect Newcastle to make life difficult for them. We will include the overs goals market. What has been interesting for the Foxes is that they are not just relying on Jamie Vardy to get the goals. Newcastle look set to struggle this season especially on the road, and we think Leicester can put in a solid work man like performance, the motivation is simple to get 3rd place.
