Leicester vs Crystal Palace: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 4th July 2020
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

Brendan Rodgers would be forgiven for taking a double look at his side since the restart where they have failed to win their opening 3 games. Two draws were followed up by defeat at Everton where the Toffees had opened up a 2 goal lead early on.

Despite the poor start Leicester still find themselves in 3rd place but everything is bunching up and they only lead 4th place Chelsea by a point. That’s not the only problem for the Foxes who now have the threat of both Wolves and Manchester United who are only a win away in catching them up.

On the other side Manchester City will finish 2nd now and have moved 11 points clear of Leicester. The Foxes though should be respected at home and returning here they will be looking for a win. They have, after all only lost 3 times this season at King Power Stadium. Their last match here finished 0-0 v Brighton and they have struggled to score goals since the restart, Jamie Vardy the league’s top scorer has been quiet.

Crystal Palace have lost two games in a row. The first at Liverpool was expected but a 1-0 home defeat against Burnley wasn’t, and that could have taken the club back a few steps. Presently the Eagles are on 42 points and in 12th place and whilst they would like a strong finish to the season it seems that they would miss out on a desired return to European football. Still the club have to look back at this season and see the successes. Overall they have been good in defence and there has been no relegation struggle this season. On the road Palace have won 5 games and won 2 from their last four.

Team News:

Leicester: The Foxes have no new injuries ahead of this game.

Crystal Palace: Christian Benteke has an ongoing muscle injury, no update has been given as yet and the player remains 50/50 to be ready for this encounter. Jeffrey Schlupp has a knock but is expected to miss the next few games, James Tomkins is out with the same problem.

Leicester vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Leicester won 2-0.

In the last 5 league meetings, Crystal Palace have won 4 of them.

Last season Crystal Palace won this fixture 4-1.

Leicester vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

Palace have a very good recent record over Leicester and have been able to get the better of them, however Leicester did win away from home earlier this season. Leicester are an excellent side though it is clear we haven’t seen nearly the best of them since the restart. The club will start winning games again and they need too. Because losing 3rd place is one thing but they could well lose a Champions League place and that would be a catastrophe for the club at this stage of the season.

Key players like James Maddison and Jamie Vardy need to step up, just like they had up to March, and push Leicester over the line. A defeat here wouldn’t just be three points lost it would also signal deeper problems and a full collapse could be on. We don’t think Leicester are in meltdown and we will back the home win in this game.
