Leicester vs Chelsea: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 12th May 2019
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

It was total joy for Chelsea late on Thursday evening as they reached the Europa Cup final, their 2nd in 6 years after they triumphed in the penalty shoot out against German side Eintract Frankfurt. It means that Chelsea will meet a great rival in Arsenal in an all English final, that should be a mouth watering affair in Baku.

Chelsea have already qualified for the Champions League, but they still need a win here to make sure it is automatic qualification. As it stands 3rd is good for that, but lose or draw here and if Tottenham win then Chelsea would have to qualify for the competition via the play offs. To add more complexity to the situation they would qualify for the tournament anyway if they were to win the Europa League.

Form has been poor for The Blues where they have won just 1 game from their past four in the league, the good news being that this was their last game and a convincing 3-0 win over Watford.

Maurizio Sarri’s team have generally struggled on the road but at the same time have still won 50% of their games. They have picked up 4 points from their last 12 away from home with their last away match ending in a decent 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

Leicester could finish 8th with a win and hope that Everton lose or draw. Their last game ended in a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City but it has been accepted that with the arrival of Brendan Rodgers in March the team have looked more consistent and hungry. However form has dipped in recent weeks with just 1 win in their past four games.

Still it is at home where Leicester have been their strongest and they have won 4 from their last 5 games at the King Power Stadium, their last win coming against Arsenal in a very convincing 3-0 win.

Team News:

Leicester: No new injuries coming into this game

Chelsea: Andreas Christensen has a knock but could play. N’Golo Kante is out with a hamstring with a view of being back for the Europa League final. Ruben Loftus-Cheek has a minor muscle injury and should be fine for this game

Leicester vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Earlier in the season Leicester surprised Chelsea by winning 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Last season this fixture ended 2-1 to Chelsea.

Chelsea have won 3 from the last 4 league games played at Leicester.

Leicester vs Chelsea Prediction:

Chelsea have more to lose than Leicester and have a Europa Cup final to think about. They will try to take the pace of the game and keep ball and Leicester will have the best chances of the game as a result. It is questionable if Sarri will pick his strongest team here- will Eden Hazard play for example? We will back both teams to score and we should see a closely fought match, which Leicester might have enough to edge considering their home advantage and having no European distractions.

Leicester vs Chelsea Betting Tips:

Both teams to score at 1.57

Draw no bet: Leicester at 1.72

Anytime goalscorer: Jamie Vardy at 2.10
