Leicester vs Chelsea: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 1st February 2020
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

What a game this promises to be to kick off the return to a Premier League weekend after the FA Cup matches of last weekend.

Leicester were supposed to have fallen by now, so said some critics but it hasn’t happened and at the very worst Brendan Rodgers team are going to qualify for next seasons Champions League, which would be a huge achievement.

The Foxes are 8 points clear of Chelsea which is a good distance but they could pratically kiss goodbye to the Blues and go 11 points clear with a win on Saturday. Form has been up and down for Leicester and they have seen Manchester City take 2nd place in recent weeks. They did get a very good 4-1 win against West Ham in their last game but they have lost 2 from their last three games. What would have been worrying for Rodgers is that those defeats were against Southampton and Burnley.

At King Power Stadium Leicester have the 3rd best home record in the league and they have won 8 matches from 12 played. However form here is not good with just 1 win from their past four matches. Rodgers will be hoping that his team went through a blip and that the West Ham victory could reignite them. However the club faced a set back midweek as they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup against Aston Villa at the semi-final stage, can they bounce back from just missing out on a Wembley final date?

It feels as though this is the last chance saloon for Chelsea to claim 3rd position and they will need a win to have any chance. Whilst form has suffered in recent weeks Frank Lampard would have been relived to see that the two big teams chasing them, Manchester United and Tottenham have also slipped up, and Chelsea therefore still have a 6 point advantage to 5th place.

In their last two games Chelsea lost to Newcastle and drew 2-2 with Arsenal, but the Blues actually have a better record away from home where they have won 7 of their 12 matches on the road. However they have no away wins this year.

Team News:

Leicester: Nampalys Mendy has a knee injury and could miss up to six weeks. Wes Morgan has not been disclosed but he is out of this game.

Chelsea: Tammy Abraham has an ankle injury and looks a doubt for this game. Olivier Giroud has a groin injury but also could be transfered, this is up in the air.

Leicester vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 1-1, and their last two meetings have finshed in draws.

In the last 3 meetings in the league when Leicester have been at home Chelsea have won twice.

The last 4 meetings have all been under 2.5 goals.

Leicester vs Chelsea Prediction:

These are tough times for Leicester because take out the 4-1 win over West Ham and there isn’t much to get excited about with regards to results, and West Ham have been poor lately. Chelsea will prove tough opposition and they have some good results up here. The one worry is that when Leicester have been tested they haven’t been able to produce the goods against the better sides. Chelsea will give Leicester a game here and we think they will show more passion and hunger, 4th place is up for grabs and Chelsea need to be thinking about putting a run of games together and to put pressure on 3rd place. Having said that, this game could go either way, and we feel goals could be the safer market to target, and we see there being a few goals in this game.
