Leeds vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 25th September 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

Compared to how Leeds started last season this one has been a nightmare and the club are still looking for their first win. There is some good news to be had though and that was in midweek when the club won a penalty shoot out against Fulham to advance in the EFL Cup. The actual game finished 0-0 though so it is questionable if the club have gained much confidence up front.

Even if last season showed a lot of naivety from Leeds they were entertainers and they scored goals but with just 5 so far to their name they have been lacking in that department and the likes of Patrick Bamford and Stuart Dallas have started slowly.

Despite being in 17th place though maybe there is some change around for Marcelo Bielsa’s side though as they have drawn 3 of their last four games, so at least they are not regularly losing anymore. The clubs last match finished in a 1-1 draw away to Newcastle and their last home game ended in a 3-0 defeat against Liverpool.

West Ham have no wins for their last 3 matches after a very strong start. It’s been two draws in a row against Southampton and Crystal Palace and then they lost 2-1 at home to Manchester United. That game should have finished 2-2 if it wasn’t for the farcical finale that witnessed manager David Moyes bring on Mark Noble only for the act of taking a final minute penalty, to which, of course, it was saved.

Still this is a West Ham side built of stronger stuff than previous editions and they had to face Manchester United again in the EFL Cup and away from home in midweek and they won 1-0. The Hammers are in 8th place and could climb into the top six with victory at the weekend.

Team News:

Leeds: Luke Ayling is only 50/50 for this game due to his knee injury. Patrick Bamford is ruled out with an ankle injury. Diego Llorente is still out due to his muscle injury. Jack Harrison is only 50/50 due to a lack of match fitness and will face a late assessment. Raphina has recovered from a hip injury but is only 50/50 to make this game. Pascal Struijk is serving a 3 match ban for his red card earlier in the month and won’t be available again until next week.

West Ham: Ryan Fredericks has a knock and is a doubt, he is the only injury concern for the club.

Leeds vs West Ham Head to Head:

Last season West Ham won this game 2-1.

It’s been 5 games since Leeds last beat West Ham.

Leeds vs West Ham Prediction

Leeds are due a win but they have mounting injuries and whilst some of these players could be returning they will also be rusty. Everything points to a West Ham victory here but they will have to work hard. We are not sure if we are witnessing the same West Ham mentality that scored 8 goals in their opening two games of the season? Yes a month in football is a long time.

But if the Hammers can rekindle some of that attacking flair and they will get plenty of chances against a wide open at times Leeds side then they have a great chance to win this game. Bamford is out for Leeds, the clubs greatest hope for goals and at the other end West Ham can unleash Michail Antonio who is full of confidence. So judging on that backing the away side does seem the right path to go down.

Leeds vs West Ham Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (0.0 West Ham) at 1.625

Anytime goalscorer: Michail Antonio at 2.50
