Leeds vs Fulham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 19th September 2020
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

It’s not been a great week for Leeds. First they lost their opening game of the season against Liverpool and then they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the first time of asking against Hull.

The Liverpool game was actually a very good display from Marcelo Bielsa’s side as they really took the game to the champions scoring 3 goals at Anfield but alas they still lost the match 4-3. Bielsa made sweeping changes to his side for the Carabao Cup and it took an injury time goal to take that match to penalties with the game finishing 1-1. The game would end in disappointment for the home side though who lost 9-8 in an epic penalty shoot-out.

That’s one cup down for Leeds already, although you get the sense that Bielsa had little time for it and this season is all about surviving in the Premier League.

Fulham got off to a poor start and were outclassed at home as they lost 3-0 against Arsenal in the London derby. The Cottagers managed just 2 shots on goal and in the end that game was an exercise in damage limitation. There was to be good news in midweek though as the club came through their first test in the Carabao Cup and beat Ipswich away 1-0.

Team News:

Leeds: Liam Cooper has a slight calf problem but is expected to be ready and fit for this game. Adam Forshaw is a long term injury and he has been unavailable for almost a year, the injury concerns his hip. He has resumed light training but is certainly out of this game and possibly the rest of this month

Fulham: The Cottagers come into this game with no reported major injuries to the squad

Leeds vs Fulham Head to Head:

Last season when the teams played in the Championship this fixture ended 3-0 to Leeds.

Fulham have not won at Leeds since 2014.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals however the last two meetings has seen over 2.5 goals.

Leeds vs Fulham Prediction:

This would be a disaster for Leeds to lose this game, and one could think that all they have to do here is play with the same intensity that they did against Liverpool. But then the players would have been hugely motivated, not only because they were playing the champions but it was their first game back in the Premier League in 16 years.

Bielsa will have to find that motivation for the club that may be licking their wounds slightly after this week. But they must also remember that they easily overcame Fulham here last time and that the London side rarely travel well to Leeds.

As for Fulham this could end up being two defeats in a row, and already they will feel the pressure is on to remain in the league. This is a difficult trip for them and we would be surprised if they got anything here.
