Leeds vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 5th December 2021
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

Leeds won only their 3rd game of the season in midweek as they beat Crystal Palace at home in a 1-0 victory. The game looked to be heading for a stalemate but in the 93rd minute Leeds were awarded a penalty and Raphinha stepped up and made no mistake. This was a huge 3 points for the club and they have moved 5 points clear of the bottom three.

Leeds were the better side against Palace and that could be a hint that the team are improving just at the right time. Indeed Marcelo Bielsa’s side are picking up the points lately and have only lost once in their last five outings. At Elland Road it’s only 2 wins from seven games but again looking at recent form they are unbeaten here in their last four games. We would have to go back to the end of September for Leeds last loss at home which came against West Ham.

Brentford are in 12th place but just a point above Leeds and it was probably no surprise that the club lost 2-0 at Tottenham in midweek. That means it is 3 defeats in their last five. But here is a team who plug away and for now they are getting those odd results that are gaining them just enough points. For example in between their 3 defeats they were able to beat Everton and draw against Newcastle.

The Bees actually have more points away from home so far although recent form on the road will be worrying for the club who haven’t won a game in 2 months.

Team News:

Leeds: Patrick Bamford could return for this game. He has recovered from injury but just has some fitness issues but he is being tipped to return. Luke Ayling could also return from his injury lay off and will be assessed. Robin Koch is out long term with his pelvic.

Brentford: Tariqe Fosu-Henry is out with a hamstring injury. Zanka is a major doubt with an on going muscle injury. David Raya Martin and Josh Da Silva are both out long term.

Leeds vs Brentford Head to Head:

The last time the teams played here was in 2019 and the game finished 1-0 to Leeds.

The last five meetings have all ended in under 2.5 goals.

Brentford haven’t beaten Leeds at their ground since 2015.

Leeds vs Brentford Prediction:

Leeds will come into this game with confidence and if Patrick Bamford makes the team there will be extra incentive. The forward has missed such a big chunk of this season already and if he can start scoring goals like he did last season then Leeds should be more than safe. Having Bamford back will be like having a new signing joining up just before the Christmas period so this is a huge bonus for the club.

Brentford are showing inconsistencies but they also do not have a great recent record over Leeds. We could see a good entertaining game as both clubs have the desire to attack and try and place nice football. But we will back the home side to get the three points. Check last minute team news, but for now we will also add Bamford to score to our selections.
