Leeds vs Aston Villa: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 2nd October 2022
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

Leeds started the season well but have had some worrying results lately have haven’t won a game from their last three. Before the international break they were trounced 5-2 by Brentford and that followed a defeat at Brighton and a draw against Everton.

Jesse Marsch’s side come into this game in 11th place with 8 points and they still look like a vast improvement on last season but will want to pick up points in this game. Sometimes the international break comes at the wrong time for teams in form but it could be questioned that it came at the right time for Leeds who will be looking to regroup and start up some consistency. At home the club remain unbeaten and they have already beaten Chelsea and Wolves here and should be the favourites to win this game.

Steven Gerrard will know that he isn’t out of the woods just yet but what a difference two games make and after poor form Villa were able to draw with Manchester City, despite trailing in that game and then beat Southampton 1-0 at home. Villa are now in 15th position and they would fly past Leeds with victory here. However here comes the bad news and it doesn’t make for great reading, Villa are yet to earn a point away from home, have scored just two goals and conceded seven. They have been poor on the road but they did give a good fight in their last away game against Arsenal but ended up narrowly losing that one 2-1.

Team News:

Leeds: An update on Stuart Dallas suggests that he will be out for another month at least with a leg injury. Archie Gray has bene ruled out with a toe injury and won’t return for at least 10 days. Adam Forshaw is out long term with an ankle injury.

Aston Villa: This game looks like it will come too soon for Matthew Cash but he has recovered from his hamstring injury and should be ready for next weekend. Lucas Digne is out for between 2-3 weeks with a heel injury, Boubacar Kamara is out until the end of the year with a knee injury. Diego Carlos is out long term with his Achilles.

Leeds vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

Last season Aston Villa won this fixture 3-0.

It’s been 4 games and two years since Leeds beat Aston Villa, however they haven’t managed to beat them at home for six years.

There have been 9 goals scored in this fixture in the last two games.

Leeds vs Aston Villa Prediction:

The clubs are fairly equal coming into this game but you suspect there is still more pressure on Gerrard and he will get the bigger backlash if his side fail to win. Villa have done well over Leeds in recent years and have played some better football in their last few games but perhaps the international break didn’t come at the best time for them. Saying that we expect to see a game that is limited in opportunities as both teams may well play not to lose.

This is a game that for us has draw written all over it, which is always a risky choice to go for, so backing Villa on the double chance to cover that could be the way to go here. Despite there being so many goals in recent matches we do not expect that to repeat so would also be looking into covering the under goals markets.
