Huddersfield vs Arsenal: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 9th February 2019
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Kirklees Stadium

Match Preview:

Last season this was Arsene Wenger’s final game of his managerial career at Arsenal in a season where The Gunners failed to finish in the top four. As Arsenal go back to Huddersfield they are still, it seems, playing catch up and are in 6th place.

The best Unai Emery’s team can hope for this season looks like being 4th and the good news is that just 3 points is the difference, the bad news is that Manchester United and Chelsea stand in their way. Still The Gunners will be big favourites to win this game against Huddesfield at the weekend.

Form for Arsenal has been decent with 3 wins from their past five games including beating a top 4 rival in Chelsea. But they have also lost to West Ham and were exposed to Manchester City as league pretenders last weekend when they lost 3-1.

However there have to be some truths for Arsenal and that is the club haven’t changed from last season how poor they have been on the road. They come into this game having lost their last 3 matches, conceding 9 goals in those games. We have to go back 3 months until the last time the club won on the road.

Huddersfield are a massive 13 points from safety and will be getting relegated. If they accept this the club actually might start to pick up some results. They have won just 2 times this season and their last game ended in a 5-0 defeat to Chelsea. They have picked up just 1 point from their last 15.

At home their long suffering fans have had to endure 10 defeats from 13 games and have seen their side win just one game. They have won just 4 points from the last 30 in front of their own fans.

Team News:

Huddersfield: Jonathan Hogg could return from a back injury and will be assessed. Lowe is 50/50 as he was ill but has been seen back in training. Isaac Mbenza has a calf injury and is not expected back until mid March

Arsenal: Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang is ill but will be assessed ahead of the game and is expected back. Henrikh Mkhitaryan could return after claiming his fitness back. Shkodran Mustafi obtained a head injury in the defeat against Manchester City, but has since trained and so will be assessed before this game. Granit Xhaka could also make a return after his groin injury and is 50/50

Huddersfield vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Arsenal have won the last 5 meetings over Huddersfield in a row.

The last two games have ended in the same score of 1-0 to Arsenal.

4 of the 5 wins have seen more goals in the 2nd half.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Huddersfield vs Arsenal Prediction:

If Arsenal do not win this game then the club have deep lying problems. With all due respect to Huddersfield their season is over and it has really shown especially in the last month and while the team won’t lie down for Arsenal they are just shot of confidence and have an inferior squad to The Gunners. Arsenal are odds on but hold some value given how poor Huddersfield are. This value is born out of the fact that Arsenal have been so poor on the road, but they are playing the rock bottom team with the motivation of trying to break back into the top 4, surely they will not miss this opportunity.
