Fulham vs Watford: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 22nd September 2018
Kick off at 12.30pm BST
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

The early kick off on Saturday to kick start the 6th round of games in the Premier League will be between strugglers Fulham and this seasons surprise package Watford.

Fulham have just 1 win this season which came at home against Burnley but other than that The Cottagers have failed to impress. They can point to a few hard fixtures along the way, namely Tottenham and last weekend when they were beaten by Manchester City 3-0, but despite the scoreline Fulham were able to frustrate City enough that manager Pep Guardiola was still left enraged after the game.

The cold hard facts though are that Slavisa Jokanovic’s team are in 15th place and have lost 3 games already this season. Of course some clubs like the visitors Watford have already had the benefit of playing 4 home games this season and for Fulham this is just two so they will take heart from that and will want to take advantage of Watford after their loss last weekend.

Watford did certainly lose last time out and that ended their brilliant 100% start to the season when they were beaten by Manchester United 2-1. In the end the game was very close and only the brilliant goalkeeping of David de Gea meant that Watford didn’t at least get a point.

The Hornets have taken the league by storm in the opening weeks but how will they react after defeat? It’s interesting to note that from their five games played so far 4 have been at home and the match they won away was to Burnley who have really lost their way this season.

Team News:

Fulham: Tom Ream and Tom Cairney are working hard to be fit for this game after missing the last few weeks. Neeskens Kebano will not return until the end of the month at the earliest after injuring his ankle

Watford: Gerard Deulofeu was expected to be back for this match but will be assessed after his muscle injury

Fulham vs Watford Head to Head:

The last time the teams met here was in 2014 when Watford comprehensively won the game 5-0.

Because of a lack of meetings between the two Fulham have not won at home since 2005.

Based on the last 3 results at this ground there is a 66% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Fulham vs Watford Prediction:

Fulham will welcome being at home once again and will want to continue to spoil Watford’s party. The last time Fulham were at home they stuck 4 goals past Burnley but we must remember they also lost to Crystal Palace. Watford haven’t been tested on the road properly and so going for a result would make little sense based on the evidence we have. The main bet therefore should be to see both teams to score.

Watford will feel a little exposed but will still be dangerous in attack. We will also look into Troy Deeny making an impact. He was bullish in his recent comments about not being in the England set up and will want to give manager Gareth Southgate something to think about despite his age.

Fulham vs Watford Betting Tips:

Both teams to score at 1.57

Anytime goalscorer: Troy Deeny (Watford) at 3.00
