Fulham vs Newcastle: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 1st October 2022
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

It’s been a brilliant start for Fulham and not many would have predicted that the Cottagers would be above Newcastle by October. While the club has not shown much consistency they have recorded three wins from their last five games and sit in 6th place with 11 points and are three clear of their visitors.

Fulham’s last game ended in a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest and it has been at home where the club have really shone. So far they are unbeaten winning 7 points from a possible 9 and they have won their last two games here beating Brighton and Brentford, this game though marks a step up.

Whisper it but is there a tiny bit of pressure mounting on Newcastle manager Eddie Howe? While the Magpies have lost just once to a last minute Liverpool goal they have also won just one game. The problem has been draws and the club have drawn 5 of their first seven games. They come into this one already 10 points behind the league leaders however they could move up significantly with victory here. Howe’s side have drawn their last two games and away from home has been miserable so far with just 2 points earned from a possible 9. Their last away game was a defeat against Liverpool and they have also drawn against Wolves and Brighton on the road.

Team News:

Fulham: Joao Palhinha is suspended from this game after picking up his fifth yellow card. Antonee Robinson is only rated at 50/50 to return from his ankle injury. Harry Wilson is out until November with a knee injury and Manor Soloman is out long term also with a knee injury.

Newcastle: Bruno Guimaraes will be assessed due to his thigh injury, Karl Darlow is out for a month with an ankle injury. Alexander Isak is a big doubt with a leg injury. Allan Saint-Maximin is also a big doubt to recover in time due to his hamstring, Callum Wilson has some fitness issues and needs to be assessed, Chris Wood has a minor rib injury and remains a doubt Emil Krafth is out long term with a knee injury and Jonjo Shelvey will be missing for another month at least with his hamstring.

Fulham vs Newcastle Head to Head:

The last time the clubs met here in 2021 Newcastle won 2-0.

It’s been five games going back five years since Fulham have beaten Newcastle.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Fulham vs Newcastle Prediction:

Newcastle are the favourites to win this game but it is interesting that their price is as much as 2.25 and one of those reasons is that some key players look set to be missing. The other problem is that they are simply not in form and are playing a side who have been impressive so far away from home. All of the value therefore seems to be for the home side who can be backed at 3.00 for the win.

Fulham realise that the bulk of their points will be won at home and it’s about getting as many as possible before the cold winter months kick in and they find themselves in a relegation battle, it has happened so many times for the club and they really look better prepared this season. They come into this game with confidence and will have extra motivation to beat Newcastle who many predict are not too far away from winning trophies in England due to the financial backing of their owners. With everything being said perhaps it should be no surprise if we see the home side get at least a point here.
