Fulham vs Crystal Palace: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 24th October 2020
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

The Saturday afternoon derby will pit the inexperienced against the experienced when Scott Parker managing his first club Fulham will take on Roy Hodgson who has been in management for an incredible 44 years, that is four more years than Parker’s age.

Fulham have not started well and Parker would have known that this would be an uphill battle from the very beginning to stay in the Premier League. The Cottagers have yet to win a game and have just 1 point so far. That point came in their last game away to Sheffield United.

Considering Parker’s side were away they played well and had six shots on goal and in fact looked to be heading for victory until with five minutes to go United converted a penalty. Still the fact that Fulham picked up their first point of the season will have hopefully gone a long way for the club, and despite being bottom of the league they do have time on their side.

Crystal Palace are in 14th and have nosedived since winning their first two games of the season. However they did stop the rot last weekend by claiming a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton.

The Eagles would climb into the top 10 with a win here and they are six points in front of their hosts coming into this match.

Team News:

Fulham: Joachim Andersen has a terrible ankle injury and could miss the majority of the season. Terence Kongolo still has an ongoing foot injury and isn’t expected to make his debut for the team for some time.

Crystal Palace: Gary Cahill came back from injury last weekend but now has a shin problem after being kicked. He will be assessed though. Jordan Ayew has the Coronavirus and will miss this game. James McCarthy is expected to miss the next 2-3 weeks with a hamstring injury.

Fulham vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

The last time the two teams played here was in 2018 when Crystal Palace won 2-0.

Fulham have not beaten Crystal Palace since 2013 although the clubs have only played each other five times in the last decade.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

The last two meetings have both finished with the correct score of 2-0 to Crystal Palace.

Fulham vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

Crystal Palace has the edge over Fulham but in fairness the clubs simply haven’t played each other many times in recent history. Both clubs stopped losing runs last weekend and so will come here with a slight spring in their step but one senses that it is Fulham under the more pressure to get a result and that could play into Palace’s hands.

This could be a very unpredictable game because any of three results between these two could happen. There isn’t much in it. Parker has to have the objective that Fulham will only survive if they perform well at home and pick up the points, but Palace remains dangerous, especially on the counter, and Wilfried Zaha is on form. He is a great price to score considering his start to the season.
