Everton vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 16th September 2018
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

Everton and West Ham come into this game just like they did back in November last year where there was pressure on both sides to win. That time Everton comprehensively won 4-0 with a hat trick coming from Wayne Rooney, but now Rooney is playing in America for DC United.

Whilst it’s true that there is more pressure on West Ham, Everton have had a stop start beginning to proceedings in the Premier League. Three draws from 4 matches would under line that. So whilst it is good for the club that they haven’t lost yet they will need to buckle down and understand how to keep a lead, something they have blown when playing Wolves and Bournemouth.

It hasn’t been easy for manager Marco Silva who has had to contend with suspensions and an injury list that is ever growing. Richarlison will miss this game through suspension but is back next week. Perhaps with international duty for Brazil this was a blessing in disguise as he will get an extra week off.

As for West Ham, Manuel Pellegrini is under immense pressure as the club have 0 points after 4 games. The Hammers have been working over time in training for this game which in effect will feel like a cup final for them. The problem is that they rarely travel well up to Goodison and after this they have to play Chelsea and Manchester United. We could be coming into October and West Ham could still have zero points.

Team News:

Everton: Richarlison will return next week after his suspension. Theo Walcott has picked up a rib injury but will be assessed. Michael Keane should return next week, Phil Jagielka is out with a knee problem, Dominic Calvert Lewin has a knock but will be assessed, Andre Gomes is recovering from a hamstring injury

West Ham: Andy Carroll, Winston Reid and Manuel Lanzini are all out injured.

Everton vs West Ham Head to Head:

Since 2005 West Ham have won just 1 game at Goodison Park.

For 4 home games in a row Everton have been able to score at least 2 goals against West Ham.

Everton vs West Ham Prediction:

If Everton had every player fit then they would ease to victory, but there has to be question marks over the side given the lengthy injury list. The reality is that the current team could not beat Huddersfield at home and it’s been quite a struggle for the Toffemen so far.

West Ham have looked really poor but Pellegrini has thrown everything into training lately and they come here with no new injuries, they simply must put in a performance. The quality of the sides is pretty level given Everton could be missing at least 6 first team regulars and calling out a winner will be exteremely difficult.
