Match Preview:

Sunday’s match, which is the final game of the Premier League weekend will be played between two sides who have had miserable starts to their league campaign.

Everton fans could never believe that after 10 games their club would be in 16^th position and 2 points from the relegation zone. The club have lost 60% of all games, and after beating West Ham 2-0 a few weeks ago they seemed to have turned a corner. Not so, as last weekend they were beaten by Brighton 3-2, however some fans would like to point out a very soft penalty and an own goal by Lucas Digne meant there was some bad luck shoved into the game for the club. It was particularly frustrating for Everton as that match was closing out and they were 2-1 up that they couldn’t hang on for a result.

The good news for Everton is that they are through to the Carabao Cup quarter finals after beating Watford 2-0 in midweek and will face Leicester when that competition resumes. The victory over Watford just like the win over West Ham took place at Goodison Park and the feeling will be can the club make it 3 home wins on a spin with a win here?

If we’re evaluating both teams on paper we could say that Tottenham have the better team, after all this is the team that reached a Champions League final last season and have improved incredibly on their league standing in the past few years. And yet they have really stumbled this season, almost playing punch drunk, possibly believing the hype? Something has to change at Spurs. They did at least make Liverpool think in their last league game and took the lead at Anfield before being overpowered in the 2^nd half and losing that game 2-1.

Tottenham are in 13^th place although a win would easily see them break into the top 10. The club have gone their last 3 matches without victory though and on the road they are yet to win a game, losing 3 consecutive and would be in 17^th position based on away games only.

Team News:

Everton: Yerry Mina has a minor knock but should be fine for this game. Bernard has a knee injury and is set to miss a lengthy time out.

Tottenham: Erik Lamela looks a major doubt after his thigh injury. Danny Rose is suspended for this game after picking up 5 yellow’s. Jan Vertonghen could return after a hamstring injury

Tottenham have really struggled and Everton have a good chance to get the win and pile the misery onto them. However the same could be said the other way round. Tottenham showed a lot of promise against Liverpool last weekend before fading but Liverpool are a better side than their neighbours. The worry for Everton is that Tottenham’s poor form won’t continue and they have the players to cause Everton’s defence many problems. Also we have to remember that Tottenham enjoy coming here and have a great record. This match could go either way, but we might be siding with Tottenham if they can regain their quality from last season and get over their poor form.
