Everton vs Norwich: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 25th September 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

After a positive start to the new campaign Everton have lost 2 games in a row in all competitions but this could be the perfect way to bounce back. Not only are Everton at home but they are facing the bottom club Norwich who have been the poorest side in the Premier League so far.

Life under Rafa Benitez was going very well for the Toffees although last weekend the bubble was burst as the club lost 3-0 at Aston Villa. Though there is no need to panic just yet for the club this defeat was compounded as they exited the EFL Cup a trophy they have never won in midweek. This would have been disappointing to Everton given it was against QPR. The game had finished 2-2 with Everton having to come back twice but ultimately after a lengthy penalty shoot out QPR advanced.

The biggest problem which is highlighted below is the ever increasing injury list, and the club are missing key players. Presently Everton are in 6th place and are only 3 points behind the league leaders Chelsea so it isn’t all doom and gloom despite a forgettable week for the club. Southampton and Burnley have already been beaten at Goodison Park this season.

Sometimes you find yourself bottom of the league despite playing some good football and it all seems unjustified. This isn’t the case with Norwich. True they have had hard fixtures facing the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City but their season so far was summed up by losing 3-1 at home to Watford and there seems no escape for the Canaries.

Bottom of the league they have lost all of their opening games and shipped 14 goals already, that’s almost 3 a game on average and they have managed just two goals. Incredibly if other results work out and they win here they could actually leave the bottom three, but it seems unlikely that any of that will materialise.

Team News:

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin will miss out because of a muscle injury and isn’t expected back for at least 10 days. Seamus Coleman has a hamstring injury and has been ruled out for 3 weeks. Jordan Pickford is out with a shoulder injury and won’t return until mid October. Richarlison has a knee injury and is ruled out for at least 3 weeks. Andre Gomes and Lucas Digne both have calf injuries although these are not thought to be serious and they will both face late assessments. Fabian Delph is still out with a shoulder injury. James Rodriguez has left the club.

Norwich: Christoph Zimmermann is set to miss a few more weeks with an ankle injury

Everton vs Norwich Head to Head:

Everton lost the last meeting with Norwich here in 2019 losing 2-0.

Norwich have won the last 2 games played at Goodison Park.

The last time the clubs played was in 2020 at Carrow Road and Everton won 1-0.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Everton vs Norwich Prediction

Just like against Aston Villa there will be changes in the Everton side so that means a start for Asmir Begovic in goal and he will be hoping that the roar and encouragment of the home crowd will give him a better time of things this time around. Salomon Rondon will start up front but all eyes at least for Everton fans will be on Demarai Gray who has started so brightly for the club and he will be the main hope for where goals are concerned.

For Norwich this is a genuine chance if they can keep defence tight of possibly causing an upset. The team will be well aware that they have come from this ground lately and left with wins, but if Everton score early then it will be hard for the visitors but with the injuries there remains a chance for the visitors.

Having said that we won’t go against Everton. This is an important match for them and will help erase what happened last weekend and in midweek, but Everton will really be calling on Gray to make the difference here.

Everton vs Norwich Betting Tips:

Everton to beat Norwich at 1.62

Anytime goalscorer: Demarai Gray at 3.75
