Everton vs Man Utd: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 1st March 2020
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

Everton look like a different side under Carlo Ancelotti and will be full of confidence, as they should be, coming into this game at home to Manchester United.

Even though they lost 3-2 at Arsenal one could say Everton were the better side and played like they were the home side for the majority of the game. They just seem to have a very poor record away to Arsenal where they haven’t won since 1996. Other than that form has been good with one defeat in their last five games and 8 points earned from their last 15.

At home Everton have the 6th best record in the league and have won 7 of their 13 games losing just 3. This includes winning 3 of their last four games with their last home game ending in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace. The club are in 11th place and would need a win here to keep a European finish alive.

Manchester United have climbed to 5th place and have 41 points, they have a real chance to make it into the top four and are three points behind Chelsea though they have at least 5 teams on their back and breathing down their necks, there is no rest for the wicked here.

They have won their last two games, scoring 5 goals and conceded 0 taking on both Chelsea and Watford. New signing Bruno Fernandes seems to have raised spirits and the player has started really well for the club.

On the road United have lost almost 50% of their games and have lost 3 of their last five games. They still have a goal difference at minus 3, and one has to wonder if they can really be trusted on the road. Having said that they did recently get a fantastic 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Team News:

Everton: Lucas Digne has a muscle injury but could be assessed for this game. Morgan Schneiderlin has had to under go knee surgery and could be on the sidelines for some time.

Manchester United: Anthony Martial is touch and go to be fit as he picked up a thigh injury and he will have to face a late test ahead of the game. He is the only new concern for the club who are already missing the likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford.

Everton vs Man Utd Head to Head:

Last season Everton won this fixture 4-0.

From the last 9 meetings in the league Everton have just 1 win.

Earlier in the season in the reverse match the teams drew 1-1.

Everton vs Man Utd Prediction:

There used to be a big gap between Everton and Manchester United and that doesn’t exist any more. Everton have been really solid under Ancelotti and are playing good football. Manchester United aren’t without merit too but they keep losing some key players to injury and if Anthony Martial doesn’t make the starting line up it will start to feel like they are a little exposed. At the same time they do have Bruno Fernandes and if Everton can keep the new signing from finding his play maker strengths then they have every chance of getting something out of this game. With Chelsea dropping points on Saturday United should be up for this but as we’ve seen on a few occasions this season, many teams are finding it hard work to take 4th place from Chelsea or even genuinely threaten them.
