Crystal Palace vs Sheffield Utd: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 1st February 2020
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

This could be a very interesting game, with both teams stubborn in defence and punching above their weight this season.

Crystal Palace come into this game in 11th place where they lost just once in their last five games, the catch is that they have won none in that time and have drawn 4 in a row before they lost against Southampton. Let’s face it Palace have been quite dull recently. The club may not mind given that they are in 11th place and 7 points clear of the drop.

Home form for Palace reads won 4, lost 4 and drawn 4 but they have only won 1 game at home from their last four attempts. That doesn’t strike one as boding well for this game.

Sheffield United meanwhile are in 8th place with 33 points they could really make a splash into the top six and be right in the mix for a possible Europa League finish if they win here and gain some consistency. Although the club have gone their last two games without a win. Their last match can be forgiven though as that was against Manchester City and they only lost that 1-0.

Away form for the Blades has become a tad worrying as they have recorded no wins in their last 3 trips.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Cenk Tosun is ruled out with a hamstring and he could miss the next 3 weeks, he is the only new injury concern for the Eagles

Sheffield United: David McGoldrick will be assessed for a return after his foot injury

Crystal Palace vs Sheffield Utd Head to Head:

The clubs have not played here since 2011 when Palace won 1-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Sheffield United won 1-0.

In 15 years the clubs have played each other 4 times when Crystal Palace have been at home and Sheffield United have not recorded any wins.

Crystal Palace vs Sheffield Utd Prediction:

We predict a very close game, and this could end 0-0. But we will opt to give the edge to Crystal Palace. The club have gone a long time without winning a game and it only should be a matter of time for that to happen. Palace can join United on the same points with a win and they will feel perhaps another two wins and a draw could well seal their survival in the league. They need to pick up points at home that has to be the objective and they will need to make life difficult for the Blades.
