Crystal Palace vs Brighton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 27th September 2021
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace and Brighton is always a game full of tension and atmosphere and with the fans back and on a Monday evening this should be a fascinating match that is hopefully also very entertaining.

Palace have played some good football since their slow start and yet they have just 1 win which came against Tottenham at home. The good news for the Eagles is that they are unbeaten at home and will relish this game. Last weekend they were easily beaten 3-0 by Liverpool at Anfield but that will not affect the club too much. It is games like this they must be winning. The club come into this one in 14th place and depending on other results around them could climb 2-3 places higher with victory.

Brighton have started very strongly and are in 6th position and already have 12 points. With other teams above them dropping points as Liverpool drew with Brentford and Manchester United and Chelsea lost it means that Brighton would go top of the table with a win, so this just magnifies the importance of this game for Graham Potter’s side as it could be the only time this season they reach 1st place.

The club have won 4 of their 5 matches and that includes coming into this one fresh off winning 2 in a row. Still critics will point out that Potter’s team have hardly played the stronger sides in the league as of yet and the one top 10 side they did play in Everton they lost 2-0.

In midweek Brighton kept their train rolling and knocked Swansea out of the EFL Cup and the clubs last away game in the league finished in a 1-0 victory over Brentford.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: There are no new injuries for the Eagles coming into this game.

Brighton: Yves Bissouma has a knee injury but will be assessed as he has made a good recovery. Alexis MacAllister has recovered from a back injury and is in line to make this game after  a scare. Enock Mwepu is only 50/50 to feature after his groin injury.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 1-1.

It’s been 5 games since Brighton beat Crystal Palace.

7 from the last 8 meetings has seen both teams to score.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton Prediction:

Patrick Vieira is doing and saying the right things and this bodes very well for the Eagles. He has recently admitted to immersing himself in the history of the club and deserves plaudits for that. Time and again managers can come into a club with quality and experience but with no understanding of the history of the club. Vieira did the same at Nice and for now Crystal Palace are lucky to have him, he will get them results.

Brighton have been almost flawless this season and Graham Potter looks like a manager to keep an eye on. This is a game that is not a glamour tie at all but at the same time it is one between two teams who want to play attractive football and entertain and have two managers who are learning and getting better in the game.

We are going to back Palace being at home, the club were also on a very solid run before running into Liverpool and most clubs are going to get very little against the Reds this season. Take that game out and Palace are doing a good job.

Wilfried Zaha is on form like he was last season and Odsonne Edouard is another player to watch out for too, indeed Palace have a good attacking trio at the moment and we should see the best of them when they play at home.
