Chelsea vs Watford: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 5th May 2019
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

Chelsea will have the Europa League on their mind no doubt, but also they will have to concentrate on this game, as winning it should give The Blues the push they need to finish in the top 4.

Maurizio Sarri’s team got a great 1-1 draw at Eintract Frankfurt in midweek and that vital away goal could be key for reaching the Europa League final, a competition that the club won in 2013. Chelsea have been brilliantly strong at home in Europe in the knock out games.

For this match the club will need to be at 100% but of course the looming 2nd leg will be on everyone’s minds. So that makes this game very fascinating.

At home in the league The Blues have lost just one game, which was against Leicester and they have won 11 of their 18 games and should not be underestimated here. Recent form has not been good however, with a loss to Liverpool, which away from home was expected but then they followed that up with a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Burnley and then hit back with a decent 1-1 draw away to Manchester United. At the end of the day, one isn’t quite sure which Chelsea side will turn up.

Watford were going for 7th place but with Wolves winning 1-0 against Fulham earlier today, 7th is now impossible for Watford and their full focus will be on winning the FA Cup. Therefore Europe beckons only via the Cup final for them now, making this game of little importance to them other than staying sharp and injury free.

Team News:

Chelsea: Gary Cahill has a minor achilles injury and is set to miss this game, Sarri may rest the player and use him instead for the 2nd leg semi final against Eintract Frankfurt. Antonio Rudiger has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury

Watford: Miguel Britos has a dental problem and so is 50/50 to make this game. Etienne Capoue is set to miss this match with his groin injury. Sebastian Prodl is still out with his knee

Chelsea vs Watford Head to Head:

Chelsea have won 4 of the last 5 meetings against Watford.

Chelsea vs Watford Prediction:

Watford are fighters and we have to respect that, but they have bigger fish in a bigger pond coming up in the Cup final and we believe that will be playing too much on their mind. Had this been an away game for Chelsea they could well have suffered, but they should show some more energy here. It is unclear who Sarri will rest so we will back Chelsea to get all 3 points, but could see both teams finding the back of the net also in what could be an energetic game.

Chelsea vs Watford Betting Tips:
