Chelsea vs Liverpool: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 22nd September 2019
Kick off at 4.30pm BST
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

How spoiled we are being on Sunday with a host of brilliant fixtures and that concludes with a mega one when Chelsea take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

The only problem is that this isn’t the Chelsea of old, and under Frank Lampard and with a summer transfer ban and the departure of Eden Hazard a lot has changed at the club. The good news is that they are playing good football and scoring goals and Tammy Abraham is emerging as one of the brighest future Premier League stars out there.

However the club have still struggled this season. In mid week in the Champions League they lost at home 1-0 to Valencia and in the league they are in 7th place with 8 points. They have been pegged back and drawn games you would have expected them to win, with Sheffield United and Leicester being the stand out ones and in fact they have failed to win a game at home this season.

In their last league game though they turned the style on and beat Wolves 5-2 away from home with Abraham grabbing a superb hat trick.

Liverpool have simply been all conquering, 5 wins from their first five games and have taken a 5 point lead over Manchester City in the process. However apart from playing Arsenal which they won 3-1 they haven’t really had to be tested against any of the better clubs so far.

Their Champions League defence started poorly with a 2-0 loss away to Napoli but the Reds will be super focused on this game. On paper they should be able to come here and get the desired result but Chelsea are sure to up their game too.

Team News:

Chelsea: Emerson is 50/50 to return to the team and is back in training. Callum Hudson-Odoi has recovered from injury and now just has fitness issues, he might make the bench. N’Golo Kante also might make the squad a late decision will be made. Antonio Rudiger has a groin injury, Mason Mount is 50/50 and will be assessed ahead of the game

Liverpool: Alisson still has a calf injury and is set to miss this game. Divock Origi looks set to be ruled out after his ankle injury but a late decision might be made

Chelsea vs Liverpool Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 1-1.

In the league Liverpool have not won at Stamford Bridge since 2016.

There is an 80% chance to see both teams to score.

Chelsea vs Liverpool Prediction:

A massive game for Chelsea awaits under the new Lampard era as they take on the Champions League holders and possible favourites now for the league title. Liverpool don’t lose games easy in the Premier League anymore, just one defeat in 44 games and they are on brilliant form. Both sides lost in Europe in midweek although Chelsea have done no travelling in that time. This is a game that both teams will want to make a mark in and both to score seems like it will happen. But we cannot go against Liverpool and the experience that Jurgen Klopp has over Frank Lampard. Expect a good old fashioned end to end game, but Liverpool should have enough in the tank to get the job done and make it six wins from six.
