Burnley vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 7th March 2020
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley have crept up to 9th place and have been in solid form over the past five weeks, with no defeats. Indeed only Liverpool have picked up more points than Sean Dyche’s team over this period and the club will be aiming to record their 8th home win of the season when they welcome Tottenham in this early evening Saturday game.

The home side have gone their last three games without a defeat and it has been nearly 2 months since they lost a game. There’s a lot to play for given that a win would see the club move past Tottenham.

Tottenham have had a bad week, losing 3-2 to Wolves in the league they followed this up by being knocked out of the FA Cup by Norwich after a penalty shoot out. The club are in the back pages though for other reasons after Eric Dier jumped into the stands to confront a fan who was verbally abusing his brother. A PR nightmare for the club, and the FA are sure to have their say on the matter.

Spurs have lingering injuries to key players, which is clearly hampering their season and hurting their chances of European football. The club come into this game having lost their last two matches and also have their 2nd leg match Champions League match with RB Leipzig coming up where they are losing 1-0 from the first leg. It is all happening very quick for the club and manager Jose Mourinho doesn’t seem to have the answers that the club are looking for.

Team News:

Burnley: No new injuries for the club coming into this game

Tottenham: Hugo Lloris has a groin injury which kept him out of the Wolves defeat and he will have a late test for this game

Burnley vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Burnley won this fixture last season 2-1.

Tottenham have won 5 of the last 7 meetings against Burnley.

In the reverse fixture Tottenham won 5-0

Burnley vs Tottenham Prediction:

This is a very tough game for Tottenham and if they were to come away with a draw they should take some satisfaction from that. Burnley are in great spirits and at home and that is the opposite to how Tottenham are feeling right now. A major worry for the club is that they are conceding too many goals. The famed Mourinho defence tactics have gone missing since he has managed the club and that means that Burnley are going to get quite a few chances. It is risky to back against Tottenham because man for man they have the better team, but frustration, a lack of confidence and key players who can make the difference, that all adds up, and this could be another frustrating weekend for Spurs.
