Burnley vs Southampton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 2nd February 2019
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley came so close to beating Manchester United and inflicting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first defeat in charge of the club but amazingly it wasn’t to be even though they were leading 2-0 with just three minutes to play. The game ended 2-2 in dramatic fashion and even though Burnley escaped Old Trafford with a point, it would have felt like a loss for Sean Dyche and his team.

While Burnley have been in great form, unbeaten in their last five games they have slipped back down to 17th place and just 4 points separates them from the relegation zone. However the club have been impressive lately and on form they would be in 3rd place. Now it is just a question of how the players took this draw. What Dyche needs to do is to remind the players how they played for the first 86 minutes of that game.

At Turf Moor the club only have 4 wins this season but 3 of those victories have come in the last four games and it is clear that they have completely turned their season around.

Southampton have too and come into this game one position ahead of their hosts but on the same points. The Saints have gone the last 4 matches unbeaten and in their last game they drew away to Crystal Palace. The good news for the club is that they are scoring goals and have netted 5 times in their last 3 games.

Away form is good too having gone 3 matches unbeaten and they were impressive in their last trip- going to Leicester and winning that game 2-1.

Burnley vs Southampton Prediction:

Both sides are in very good form and this should be a cracking match of football. We should expect end to end football and goals even if history says otherwise. If Burnley haven’t been too affected by United’s late comeback then they have to be the favourtites to win this game at home. They have turned their home form around and are playing the sort of football that lifted the team so high up the league last season. This is a good period for the side and we expect them to get all three points in an entertaining game, however feel it's still best to cover the draw for extra safety.
