Burnley vs Man Utd: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 12th January 2021
Kick off at 8:15pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Apart from a recent loss against Leeds Burnley have been in good form and can come into this game feeling confident even if they will be the underdogs.

In their last league game Sean Dyche’s team beat Sheffield United and they are in 16th place with 16 points and 5 clear of the bottom three. There has been a huge improvement within the side in the last six weeks but they are far from safe and will need to continue their good form.

At the weekend Burnley were forced into extra time and penalties against the MK Dons but they won the shoot out. Recent home form has been excellent with 2 wins in a row and they are unbeaten in their last 4. Results include claiming a point from Everton and beating Wolves.

The time has arrived for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer it appears. Criticised by pundits and the media a few months after his arrival when it looked like Manchester United would not be improving under him. However in this game United would go top of the Premier League with a win or even a draw. This is the clubs game in hand over Liverpool and of course all they will be thinking about is winning this match.

Next weekend United will face Liverpool and if they win here and then against Jurgen Klopp’s team they would go six points clear. United fans will be holding their breathes, there is so much that could be achieved by the side in the next few days. They come into this game having beaten Watford 1-0 in the FA Cup and in the league their form is excellent with no defeats in over 2 months. Their last league game ended with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa and United have won 26 of their last 30 points. That is champions material right there, the question is, can they keep it up?

The omens appear to be with United given that they have such a brilliant record away from home. The Red Devils currently have the 2nd best away record in the Premier League and from 7 games have won six, drawn once and are yet to be beaten. Leicester stopped their 100% away record drawing that match 2-2.

Team News:

Burnley: Jimmy Dunne has a knock but is expected to be fine for this game. Dwight McNeil should be back after his groin injury and was given extra rest. Jay Rodriguez will be assessed ahead of the game after his knee injury and Charlie Taylor faces a test after his hamstring injury and currently remains 50/50.

Manchester United: Eric Bailly has a neck injury he sustained in the FA Cup game at the weekend. It is thought to be minor but he may be rested as a precaution.

Burnley vs Man Utd Head to Head:

Last season Manchester United won this fixture 2-0.

The last time the teams played a year ago was at Old Trafford and Burnley won the game 2-0.

Burnley haven’t beaten Manchester United when at home since 2009.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Burnley vs Man Utd Prediction:

Manchester United have an excellent record coming to Burnley and considering not only their form but also their away form it is very difficult to look past a win for the Red Devils.

Burnley have improved all over the field and won’t make it easy for United and we do not expect to see a big score. This is set to be quite close with the odd piece of magic being the key difference. This season has thrown up some interesting results of course but when we look at the quality in the United side compared to Burnley we can only see one winner here.

Manchester United have that huge added bonus to go top of the league and knock their arch rivals Liverpool from the top in the process. We expect them to be 100% focused in their most important game of the season so far.

As far as backing United to win 1.44 may put off some punters with this being an away game so we have increased the odds with no extra risk by using a "-1 asian handicap". A 2 goal margin is required for a win, but a 1 goal margin would result in a refund, meaning the risk of the bet losing is exactly the same as a standard full time result bet.

Burnley vs Man Utd Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Man Utd) at 1.70

Anytime goalscorer: Bruno Fernandes at 2.00
