Burnley vs Leicester: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 19th January 2020
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley come into this game in poor form and have lost their last 4 consecutive matches. In that time they have scored just 1 goal and conceded 8.

Whilst the club have had tough fixtures against the likes of Chelsea losing 3-0 and Manchester United they are also having a tendency to lose to teams around them such as their recent defeat by Aston Villa.

Sean Dyche’s team have 24 points and are just 3 points clear of the bottom three and their form screams relegation battle. Alongside Liverpool the club are the only ones to have not drawn any games at home. They have won 5 games and lost 6 and have lost 4 of their last 5 games at home.

Leicester have seen Manchester City finally go past them and into 2nd place. That was always going to be inevitable looking at Leicester’s recent form, which includes losing 3 of their last five games. Last weekend felt like a surprise loss as Southampton beat them 2-1, it was only a few months ago that Leicester had beaten them 9-0. Whilst the Foxes do remain a very good side one has to wonder if some fatigue is setting in.

Also could 3rd place now be up for grabs? Leicester have a 6 point lead over Chelsea and an 11 point lead over 5th place. It would be a disaster if the Foxes were to collapse now. At the same time it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the club favourites to win this game. We have to remember that they have won 7 of their 11 away games which is highly impressive and they are the 3rd best team away from home. Their last away game ended in a 3-0 win over Newcastle.

Team News:

Burnley: Ashley Barnes will be out for an extended period after having an operation on his hernia. Robert Brady has a chance to be back after his calf injury.

Leicester: Daniel Amartey has ankle injury and has undergone surgery. Wes Morgan will be assessed after his groin injury. Ndiidi’s knee will more than likely keep him out of the team until the end of the month.

Burnley vs Leicester Head to Head:

Last season Leicester won this game 2-1 and in fact in the reverse fixture earlier this season the club won by the same score line also.

In the last 5 meetings Burnley have won just once.

3 of the last 4 meetings has seen both teams to score.

Burnley vs Leicester Prediction:

The big worry for Leicester is Ndidi’s absence in midfield, will his injury coincide with poor form for the Foxes or will they as ever prove everyone wrong? Leicester no doubt have the better team and Burnley have been poor. The only way to wrestle the game for the home side will be perhaps if they stifle the ball and keep possession but can they do that for 90 minutes? Burnley need the win more than Leicester do given their position and this level of pressure may play into Leicester's hands. We will back Leicester to get back to winning ways, and score a couple of goals in the process.
