Burnley vs Leicester: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th March 2019
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley lost 4-2 away to Liverpool in their last game despite taking the lead and Sean Dyche’s team are in real trouble with just 8 games remaining to save their season.

They come into this game having lost 3 matches in a row and are just 2 points from the bottom three in 17th place. The club really need 2-3 wins to be safe as Cardiff’s victory last weekend put all of the pressure back on the teams immediately in front of them.

At home Burnley had been on a good run going 4 games without defeat but their last home match ended in a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace. Overall they have lost 50% of their games at Turf Moor which simply isn’t good enough.

Brendan Rodgers got his first win as Leicester manager last weekend when his side beat Fulham 3-1. The Foxes moved up to 10th as a result and have every chance to climb a few places more as they look to finish the season under a new manager in style.

However Leicester have been struggling for form away from home lately, with back to back defeats coming into this game and no wins in their last four matches. They have won just 5 games on the road all season.

Team News:

Burnley: Whilst the club have long term injuries (Steven Defour, Aaron Lennon, Jonathan Walters) there are no new injuries to mention and no returns coming into this game.

Leicester: The Foxes have no new injuries ahead of this game. Marc Albrighton and Daniel Amartey remain out injured.

Burnley vs Leicester Head to Head:

Earlier this season this fixture ended 0-0.

Last season Burnley won this match 2-1.

Leicester have just 1 win from the past four meetings.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Burnley vs Leicester Prediction:

If this was the beginning of the season we might have seen a more cautious approach from Leicester under a new manager in Brendan Rodgers. However with Rodgers joining the club with a few months left and Leicester safe this season he will want his team to play attacking football and really put pressure on opponents. In short, he has nothing to lose because even if Leicester were to go on a bad run, he won’t be judged until he has a summer transfer window under his belt and another season too.

Burnley have a really tricky match at the weekend - they need the points, but Rodgers and Leicester want them. For us this means that we will witness goals, and this is the market we should be concentrating on, even if historically there are few goals between the teams. History often goes out the window when a new manager enters the picture.
