Burnley vs Fulham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 3rd January 2021
Kick off at 12noon GMT (postponed)
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

Burnley’s form has been brilliant compared to how they started the season and they come into this game in 16th place and have pulled 5 points clear of the bottom three. The clubs last game ended with a 1-0 win over bottom side Sheffield United and they have lost just once in their past five outings. From their last 15 points they have managed to earn 10 points.

Whilst goal difference means that Sean Dyche’s team would stay in the same position even if they won at the weekend it would push them onwards once again and the club could start thinking about survival. Home form is key and 10 of their 16 points so far has come this way. The club have won back to back home fixtures and are unbeaten here in their last 4 games.

Fulham didn’t play in midweek as their game with Tottenham was called off by the FA because of a Covid-19 outbreak. The club are in 18th place and 2 points from safety but now they have a game in hand over their nearest rival Brighton. The Cottagers have drawn their last four games in a row and their last match ended 0-0 at home to Southampton.

On the road it’s just 1 victory for Scott Parker’s side in seven games and they have the 3rd worst away record in the league. Their last away match finished in a very decent 1-1 draw against Newcastle.

Team News:

Burnley: Jack Cork is still out due to fitness issues but is expected back in two weeks. Gudmundsson is only 50/50 to return also after fitness issues. Jimmy Dunne has a knock but will be assessed. Dwight McNeil could be back after his groin injury, Jay Rodriguez is being tipped to be fine after a minor knee problem. Charlie Taylor is a doubt with his hamstring.

Fulham: Kenny Tete should be back after some fitness issues following his injury. Tete is the only concern for the club ahead of the game.

Burnley vs Fulham Head to Head:

The last time the clubs played in 2019 this match finished 2-1 to Burnley.

The team have played at Burnley 4 times over the past decade and Fulham have no wins.

The last 4 meetings have all seen both teams to score.

Burnley vs Fulham Prediction:

Fulham won’t be easy opponents and we have to respect the fact that Scott Parker is trying his hardest with the club, from extra training sessions to different tactics and formations and they have been steadily improving.

But Burnley will be the favourites here and they have been in solid form. It’s easy to forget that the club have good players after their poor start, and this could be a solid and comfortable victory for the home side. Let it be a reminder that despite being in 16th place if we took in just recent form Burnley would be 4th, so based on that and the fact they are at home we think Sean Dyche’s team are very good value for the win.
