Burnley vs Brighton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 8th December 2018
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley’s miserable season continued in midweek with another loss, this time to Liverpool by 3-1 in a game they were leading 1-0. The Clarets have now lost three games in a row and 10 from their first 15. They come into this game in 19th position.

Can Burnley try and take something from their first half performance against Liverpool? That will be the question being asked in the dressing room. There was a determination to do well and now they will play their second game at home in a row where they really have to start picking up points. The problem is evident; Burnley have the worst home record in the Premier League. Just one win and 4 points from a possible 21 have been won at home. Their sole win came against Bournemouth towards the end of September. In that game they scored 4 goals, and yet they only have 8 at home for the season.

Brighton come here in good spirits having won back to back games against Huddersfield and Crystal Palace. What has been encouraging for Chris Hughton’s side is that they have scored 5 goals in those matches and look full of goals.

They are unbeaten in their last 3 games and in 10th place and could go into the top 8 with a win and depending on how the other games play out. On the road there is a different story to be told though and they have lost 5 of their 8 games played. However they do have 2 wins from their last four away games.

Team News:

Burnley: Steven Defour should be available again after a minor knock. Nick Pope is finally hoping to be fit for the weekend after a lack of match fitness

Brighton: Shane Duffy is suspended and serving a 3 game match ban after he was sent off against Crystal Palace. Jose Izquierdo has a knock but will be assessed ahead of this game

Burnley vs Brighton Head to Head:

The last two meetings have both ended 0-0.

The last 5 meetings have ended in draws.

Brighton have not beaten Burnley away since 2012.

There is an 80% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Burnley vs Brighton Prediction:

Brighton look the stronger side on current form but this should be a very close game. Burnley can take heart from a decent 45 minutes against Liverpool and are a better team than their league showing is suggesting. Brighton are not the best travellers and do not have a great record at this ground, so we will opt for a slightly risky choice and put our money on a home win.
