Burnley vs Arsenal: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 2nd February 2020
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Arsenal will be the favourites to beat Burnley at the weekend but Sean Dyche’s team have impressed in their last couple of games and we could be treated to a fascinating encounter.

In their last game Burnley stunned Manchester United at Old Trafford beating them 2-0 and they looked good for the win too. This followed an equally impressive 2-1 win over Leicester. Any relegation fears have been stifled as the club have climbed to 13th place and now have the same points as Arsenal.

Home form has seen them win 50% of games and along with Liverpool they are the only club in the league not to have drawn at home yet. They have lost 2 of their last 3 games at Turf Moor however, and have a -2 goal record, so it isn’t all pretty reading.

Arsenal have only won 1 game under Mikel Arteta but at the same time they have only lost one also. They are becoming draw specialists having squared up for the past 3 games. They have had a tendency to take the lead in games but get pegged back, but their last match against Chelsea which finished 2-2 had them having to come back, and it was a decent result in the end for the Gunners.

More good news followed as they dumped Bournemouth out of the FA Cup, and it was encouraging as it was an away win. On the road Arsenal have suffered not just this season but for a good few years, and no team has drawn as many games as Arsenal, it is 12 so far in total, which is 50% of all their games. Depending on results a win could take the club into 9th or 8th.

Team News:

Burnley: Ashley Barnes is still out with his hernia. Ben Gibson is struggling with fitness issues but he could be assessed.

Arsenal: Sead Kolasinac will be assessed after his on going thigh injury. Shkodran Mustafi could return after his ankle injury but is touch and go.

Burnley vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Last season Arsenal won this fixture 3-1.

Arsenal have won the last 11 meetings against Burnley.

Burnley have not beaten Arsenal since 2008.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Burnley vs Arsenal Prediction:

Mikel Arteta’s short time at Arsenal has shown promise but there hasn’t been much behind the club as a whole if we take out their Manchester United win. Playing Burnley provides an opportunity to win away from home because Arsenal have such an incredible record over them. It will be interesting in that the clubs have the same points as each other. Gabriel Martinelli looks like a special player for Arsenal and let’s not forget Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is back after being suspended for 3 games after his red card. It's tempting to back the Gunners to get the win but while the draws keep happening it's far safer to have the draw covered. We will also back Aubameyang to score, he has scored 3 goals against Burnley in the last two meetings.
