Brighton vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 12th April 2021
Kick off at 8:15pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton are six points ahead of the bottom three and have a 2 game advantage over 18th placed Fulham coming into this game. The Seagulls lost 2-1 at Manchester United last weekend but had found some form before that difficult game. They will be happy to return to the Amex.

Graham Potter’s side have won 2 of their last 3 games but at home they have won just twice so far. Most of their games have ended in draws with just under 50% going that way. Leicester and Crystal Palace have beaten Brighton here recently, though their last home game ended in a 3-0 victory over fellow strugglers Newcastle.

It’s not impossible for Everton to claim a top four finish but it is looking increasingly unlikely. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have slipped to 8th place and have gone their last 3 games without victory. Last weekend they could only draw 1-1 at home to Crystal Palace, conceding a late goal, and the club’s problems have certainly been at home.

On the road Everton have the 4th best record in the Premier League. They have won 9 of their 14 games so far although they did lose to Chelsea in their last away game. Everton would reach the 50 point marker with a win on Monday which would beat their total of 49 points from last season and they would still have 8 games to play. In that respect this has been a good season for the club.

Team News:

Brighton: Florin Andone has recovered from injury but has some fitness issues he looks set to miss out but could be assessed. Aaron Connolly will be assessed after his calf injury and is rated as 50/50. Percy Tau is self-isolating and looks set to miss this game. Adam Webster could return after a two month injury lay off and will be assessed.

Everton: Allan has a knock but could return for this game and will be assessed. Andre Gomes has a hamstring injury, he is ruled out of this game but could return next week. Bernard could miss this game with a knock. Fabian Delph is out with his tendon, Abdoulaye Doucoure could miss the rest of the season with a foot injury. Jordan Pickford has a muscle injury, some reports suggest that he could be back for this game but may not be risked.

Brighton vs Everton Head to Head:

In the reverse fixture earlier in the season Everton won 4-2.

Last season Brighton won this fixture 3-2.

Everton have not beaten Brighton away from home since 1983 although the clubs have only played 3 times since then when Brighton have been at home.

Brighton vs Everton Prediction:

Everton should be the favourites to win this game and they have been impressive on the road. One could argue that Brighton have more to fight for and could make life hard for Everton, however from the Seagulls perspective this will be a hard game for them.

Everton’s recent form has not been encouraging and we expect a close game. Brighton will understand that 2 more wins should secure their survival although with Fulham continuing to lose games and drop points it is very possible that one more win would be enough.

This is a fixture that can provide goals but both teams have looked a little tired and may just settle for a point each. We don’t expect this to be a vintage game, having said that Everton have nothing to lose now and could attack in a last attempt for a top 4 position.
