Brighton vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 18th January 2020
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton have won just 1 game in their past five coming into this match and one wonders if there are now hints that the club could be drawn into a relegation battle?

Graham Potter’s side have managed some good results this season but they have earned just 4 points in their last five games and lost last weekend against Everton.

At home the club have won just under 40% of their games but have just one loss in their last four and their last home game ended in a respectable 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

Aston Villa lost 6-1 last weekend to Manchester City, perhaps there should be no shame, because when City click not many teams can live with them but the reality of the situation is that Dean Smith’s side could be relegated this season after just coming up. They sit in 18th place but are just one point from safety and could join Brighton on the same points with a win.

Villa have lost 3 of their last five games and away from home they have the 2nd to worse record in the league having won 7 points from a possible 33. They did win their last game on the road, beating Burnley 2-1.

Team News:

Brighton: Dan Burn has a shoulder injury and is expected to be out for 6-8 weeks.

Aston Villa: Jonathan Kodija has been ruled out of this game with illness.

Brighton vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

The last time the teams played here was back in September in the Carabao Cup where Aston Villa won 3-1.

In the last 10 years the clubs have played each other five times with no wins for Brighton.

The last 5 meetings have a 100% success rate to see both teams to score.

Brighton vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Brighton will have more confidence coming into this game. Even though Villa lost to Manchester City in their last match which is no surprise they still shipped 6 goals and looked very poor, and they have a very poor away record.

The most damning point though is the fact that Villa have no recognised strikers and it is really affecting the team at the wrong time of the season. Though they have scored 3 goals in their last three games without genuine strikers, one was a penalty and they still lost 2 of those matches. We expect a tight game but Brighton should be able to end their poor run against Villa and we expect a home win. We also expect both teams to get on the scoresheet, history shows this fixture often results in goals from both teams.

Brighton vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:

Brighton to beat Aston Villa at 1.68

Both teams to score (Yes) at 1.66
