Bournemouth vs Watford: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 12th January 2020
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Vitality Stadium

Match Preview:

Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth have been in free fall for some time and after their latest defeat against West Ham which ended 4-0 they are now in the bottom three.

The club have no wins in their last 4 games with their last victory coming against Chelsea in mid December. A win should take them clear but have the club stopped remembering how to do just that?

Bournemouth have the 2nd to worst home record in the league where from 30 points they have collected just 10. They have only won 20% of their games here and have not recorded a victory at home since the beginning of November.

Watford have been magnificent since Nigel Pearson became manager. It was only a few weeks ago that the club were rock bottom and six points from safety. True they are now only 19th but have given themselves a massive chance of survival after going 4 games unbeaten and winning three of those. The Hornets are also just 2 points from safety, and have left the bottom club Norwich in their wake, going 5 points clear.

Still despite an upturn in their form they have struggled to pick up points away from home even under Pearson, and have not won on the road since November. Their last away game ended in a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United and the club have won just once away.

Team News:

Bournemouth: The club have no new injuries coming into this game but it is important to note that they have one of the longest list of injuries in the league with over 10 long term injuries to key players

Watford: Femenia has a hamstring injury and is ruled out of this game. Etienne Capoue has a minor knock and will be assessed. Will Hughes looks a doubt with a knock. Christian Kabasele is suspended after his red card

Bournemouth vs Watford Head to Head:

Last season this fixture produced six goals as the match ended 3-3.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the teams drew 0-0.

7 of the last 9 meetings between the sides has ended in a draw.

Bournemouth vs Watford Prediction:

A very interesting match awaits us given that Bournemouth has one of the worst home records and Watford one of the worst away. Though it is clear that the team with the most momentum presently is Watford who have been a complete different side since Pearson took over. What has been so important is that Watford are beating the teams around them and it is making a difference. This is a massive game for them, especially if Aston Villa drop points and Watford could very well escape the relegation zone this weekend.

These games have a history of draws and one choice we could go for which would cover the draw is a positive handicap handed to Watford, this gives us extra insurance, and with the way the Hornets have been playing we think this is worth going for.
