Bournemouth vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 1st October 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Vitality Stadium

Match Preview:

At this point one has to wonder if Gary O’ Neil’s interim job as manager of Bournemouth will become permanent? The club are unbeaten in their three games under his leadership with draws against Wolves and Newcastle and a win over Nottingham Forest- dare we say it but they are playing like a side who won’t go down this season.

The home side come into this fixture in 12th place with 8 points and they would go into the top 10 no problem with a win here. Their latest result which was the 1-1 against Newcastle was highly impressive given that it came away from home and right now the club look like they are in a good place. It’s just 1 win so far at home though and that was on the opening weekend so they would love to change up that record.

It’s been a positive start for Brentford although they did lose their last game before the international break. A 3-0 loss at home to Arsenal was a come back down to earth sort of result for the Bees. Remember how they beat the same side at home 2-0 last season, so a lot has changed. However on a positive note they have been playing good football and forward Ivan Toney has been banging in the goals, so much so that he even got a call up to play for England. Thomas Frank’s side are in 9th place and one point ahead of their hosts. They have yet to win on the road so far with two draws and a defeat and on average are conceding 2 goals per game away from home.

Team News:

Bournemouth: David Brooks is out with a hamstring injury, Ryan Fredericks has a knock and is expected to miss another two weeks. Lloyd Kelly has an ankle injury with no fixed return date. Ben Pearson is out with his knee and Joe Rothwell isn’t expected back until mid October with a thigh injury.

Brentford: Keane Lewis-Potter has a foot injury and looks set to miss out, Christian Norgaard won’t return until the end of October due to his Achilles and Ethan Pinnock could be assessed but has a lack of match fitness after recovering from injury.

Bournemouth vs Brentford Head to Head:

The last time the clubs met in a league game was in 2021 in the Championship here where Brentford ran out 1-0 winners.

Brentford have won 3 of the last four meetings.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Bournemouth vs Brentford Prediction:

The value for either side to win this game is appealing and that is because in truth there is nothing between them and they are very equal. Bournemouth have impressed in the last few weeks just when everyone may have thought after the sacking of Scott Parker and no permanent manager in charge they would suffer but that hasn’t been the case. At the same time did the international break come at the wrong time for them. We have seen time and again it can interfere with a clubs form.

Brentford are looking like a solid unit at this time and they won’t make it easy for clubs visiting them, but they haven’t been too convincing away from home yet and that could be their stumbling block. This really is a game where the winner if there is one will simply be the team who gets the better start and shows that hunger and desire. We think it be a closely fought game and will just back the home side to have the edge.
