Aston Villa vs Wolves: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 6th March 2021
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Even though Aston Villa have had just one victory in their last four games they still have a chance to make an impact on the top four. But manager Dean Smith must be annoyed because if Villa had taken their chances and been able to step up a few gears they would likely be 4th now. Instead Villa come into this game down in 9th place and are 8 points from the top four.

They do have 2 games in hand over 4th placed Chelsea though and this is like the clubs joker card, the problem is you have to win those matches and Villa are finding that particularly hard at the moment. This recent form was compounded by the fact that the club lost their last game against bottom of the league Sheffield United 1-0 and being back at home Smith’s side will be looking for all 3 points here.

Wolves are 5 points behind their hosts and their last game finished in a 4-1 defeat at Manchester City. But before that game the club had found some good form and they shouldn’t lose that focus. However on the road the club have lost 50% of their games and have just one win in their last five. Victory here would take the club one position up and past Leeds.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Matthew Cash should be back in 10 days but misses out again here. Jack Grealish will be assessed because of a leg injury and is only 50/50. Wesley could be back after a long lay off, but may not be risked.

Wolves: Marcal won’t be back for another 10 days with his thigh injury. Daniel Podence is out with a muscle injury.

Aston Villa vs Wolves Head to Head:

Last season Wolves won this game 1-0.

Earlier in the season Aston Villa beat Wolves 1-0.

4 of the last six league games has ended in under 2.5 goals.

Aston Villa vs Wolves Prediction:

Aston Villa need to get back into focus, they have had a good season compared to the last one but one feels that they could achieve so much more. It will be interesting to see if Jack Grealish can come back from injury, he is so pivotal to the team on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Here we have two equal sides who have brightened up the Premier League and can beat any side in it on their day. Wolves have the better recent form but with Villa being at home and having that points advantage you just feel they have more to play for. We expect a close game and we wouldn't be surprised to see a draw, probably a score draw, with 1-1 being most likely.
